All that smoke cant be from the NJ fires? It could be from the fires out west, perhaps?

    Fire in Wharton

The pine flies are just impossible this year. As they are every summer. Not my kind of weather, I actually avoid the woods in this. Between the heat, pine flies, ticks, and dehydration...:jeffd: Just about the only things I like about summer are thunderstorms and those ladies in those skimpy...

    Fire in Wharton

Many of the storms that hit Long Island the past couple of weeks never made it to southern NJ and break up. Fortunately because of the heavy rains we've had recently, our pines aren't that dried out, but in this heat it doesn't take long for things to dry out. I'm already concerned because there...

    Fire in Wharton

Was just mentioned on channel 4, they showed video and it looked pretty bad as it was crowning. This prolonged hot weather dries out the forest considerably, lets hope for rain, there are some thunderstorms around but they are widely scattered as the cold front that is approaching is washing out.

Road to Black's Bridge blocked at 539

Wow, talk about dumb planning. That curb needs to be demolished. Some cars may be able to drive over it though, 4x4s should have no problem. That's still better than most dirt roads on Long Island though, which are blocked by gates consisting of a bar between two wood posts.

    Say "so long" to Cranberries

Why take a chance? Whether global warming is happening or not, why take the chance? It's not like we're going to give up much of anything to be more ecofriendly. Vehicles can run on electric, ethanol, hydrogen, bio-diesel,etc. And using compact flourescents instead of bulbs. And getting our...

    Carranza and Tuckerton

Just the kind of place I love. Sugar sand and lots of pitch pine. Judging from the tracks it looks like some city slicker who got lost trying to get back from a weekend getaway at the Jersey Shore in her Hummer H2. Got on the phone and took her eyes off the road and.....:bear:

    Adventure on the Mullica

Never seen eastern redcedars so tall! Nice photos, though it must've been hot there. How were the pine flies and ticks?

    An embarassing problem

I sometimes wear the pants that have a small hole in the croch, it seems to better ventilate the area. "Prickly heat" seems to do better wearing no underwear at all under pants. How about if I bring a small container of powder with me, and apply it every hour? Thanks for the explanation very...

So what do you use for TV?

Yikes, I guess I wouldn't want Dish network then. Those recievers must be made to break, from what it sounds like.

    ticks

If the repellant is DEET it seems useless for ticks. Clothes sprayed with permethrin seem to work the best. Didn't see that many ticks out today, but the gypsy moth larva are everywhere, and they are big and fat.

So what do you use for TV?

I was very impressed with the fios demo at a local mall. Believe it or not they have had Fios internet and TV in the next town over from me for over a year now, but Verizon says it could be awhile before my town gets it. Alot of it has to do with franchises, and cablevision is trying to buy the...

So what do you use for TV?

Yeah Fios is an option too but they are taking forever to roll it out. I just don't understand why credit history has anything to do with getting subscription TV. If I can afford to pay cable, then I can afford to pay the dish networks. This aint over, I personally think credit checks on...

Yeah but just imagine what it's like picking all the ticks off every corner of the body! Yuck!

I'm glad I got my permethrin! Picked it up at Walmart last week!

So what do you use for TV?

I use Cablevision but am getting fed up with them. The internet and phone from them are good, but the TV is a joke. To rub it in they just added 10 more HD channels, but haven't added any SD channels in ages. They dont carry BBC America, NASA-TV, and a bunch of other channels. I dont plan on...

    Don't buy an Apple

Yeah I'd stay away from the Sony VIAO stuff, I've seen those in the Sony stores, not at all thrilled with them. Too much proprietary stuff and expensive. You really cant go wrong with Dell or even HP. They are not perfect but give you the most power and flexibility for your buck.

    New Camera Recommendations

Yeah but you really cant compare a shuffle or a nano to an MD recorder or most mp3 players out there since they hold much less. Not to mention the battery isn't replacable. That's the real shortcoming, if you are on a long flight and your battery dies you're screwed, because it's built in. And...

    An embarassing problem

I think they just opened a store at the Tanger Outlet in Riverhead, I noticed it last time I was there. Sounds like what I need!

    An embarassing problem

Really, I always thought Gatorade was for sweaty activity, even my doctor told me to drink it to keep from getting dehydrated. It seems to quench my thirsty pretty good, but you do need alot of it. However the same goes for water. According to what you're saying, all those gatorade ads I see on...
