    New Camera Recommendations

Figured I'd add my opinion, I think the Canon A series cameras are excellent. I use an A610 (5MP) and really have no desire for anything more. You can adjust everything manually (focus, white bal, aperture, shutter speed, etc) or set it to automatic. Photo quality is excellent. Since it's an...

    Don't buy an Apple

Well I am very pleased with my Dell. Why would I shell out twice the amount of $$ for an Apple? I aint saying Apples are bad machines, but you're mostly paying for an image. It may be more user friendly, but why spend 2 times as much on a computer so you don't have to press a few extra buttons?

    Apple iPhone

No thanks, I don't even own an iPod (nor would I want one). Too much unflexibility (built in battery, can't record through line-in,etc). I use a minidisc recorder for my personal entertainment, and have been more than pleased with it. iPods are expensive too, shelling out $300 or more for a...

    ticks

Sounds like the lonestar tick. I've seen deer, dog, and lonestar ticks in the woods here. Is this the tick you saw?

    An embarassing problem

My pants are mostly polyester and rayon (bad) and I wear boxers which are polyester and cotton (not good). Cotton underwear (briefs) are even worse and I stopped wearing those. I generally buy my clothes on the cheap since I hate spending alot of $$ on anything, I guess I am payin' for it now...

    An embarassing problem

Dealing with warm weather Sorry I forgot. It just seems like nothing is helping me. I sweat well more than the average person. It's hard to be comfortable when you're soaked with sweat. What I need to do is stop or reduce the sweating, and I think the sores will go away. Of course all the...

    An embarassing problem

Didn't help, actually made it worse. The problem is it too "moist", it needs to stay dry. Maybe I'll try Body Glide. So far vasoline, powder, and even deoderant hasn't prevented the condition from occuring. I sweat so much that my underwear and groin area of my pants are soaked, especially on...

The pond life at Brookhaven State Park

They look like johnny darters from the photos I've seen. They definately looked like fish, although it's hard to tell from the photo but when I was there I saw gills on them. Also they often "darted" when I got close, which it was why I dont have a real clear picture of them.

The pond life at Brookhaven State Park

I was at Brookhaven State Park in the Long Island pine barrens on June 15th. It was a nice cool day and of course I took alot of photos. You've seen the ponds posted here before, so instead I am going to show some of the insect and other life around the ponds. One thing that was wonderful was...

    An embarassing problem

Thanks, I'll check that out. Also what kind of clothes breathe the best? Ideally clothing with little holes in it would be the best as I feel the clothes I wear don't "breathe" too well.

    An embarassing problem

Now that the warmer weather is here as usual I seem to sweat alot. My groin area is afflicted the worst, especially on long hikes. I seem to get a sticky rash or sore, and it is extremely plainful. I put plenty of powder on before I hike, but after awhile it is sweated away. I come home and am...

    Our Morning in the Pines

Wendys is the only fast food place I can stomach.

    Exploring today

So far on LI it hasn't been as bad, but in Flanders along route 24 the oaks are 80% defoliated, looks like April. They generally don't eat the pines, at least not here. The gypsy moths seem less widespread, but where they are the damage is severe.

    NEXRAD weather radar problems

It's probably a sign of continued neglect of the NWS by the federal government. It is a critcal system and all efforts, no matter the cost, should keep it functioning. The NOAA weather radio stations are also frequently off the air.

    ticks

Here's the weird thing, I was walking down a road through a residential area, and didn't come in contact with any vegatation. Anyway I feel something crawling on my neck, grab it and it's a red tick. I guess it is true they will jump on you from the trees...

    An attractive way to recycle

Some petite decided to make a dress out of plastic supermarket bags, and then wear it to the supermarket! No these photos weren't taken by me. If they were I would have attemped to ask her out.

    some ferocious birds

And don't forget the pine flies. And ticks. I got a tick on me walking along a regular road the other day, I must've brushed up against some grass. I flung it off my pants with a piece of paper. October-April is the main hiking season for me, there's just too many bugs in the summer. And the...

    Pine Barrens brush fire crowning

It looked like the trees were exploding. That pitch is some flammable stuff, and the pines are full of it. That's why they're called pitch pines.

Pine plains on 539 after the fire

Those are some amazing photos. Thanks to everyone! I feel like I was in Westhampton! I love the contrast between the burned areas and the non burned ones. It really amazes me how much the pine plains of southern NJ remind me of the ones in WEsthampton. I really need to go down there and visit...

    Barrens of fire

I also agree with Bob, as I've said before, fire helps keep the pines dominating, otherwise oaks would takeover. Another added plus in walking through a freshly burned over area, will be the lack of bugs, particularly ticks, pine flies, and inchworms. If I lived down in that area I definately...
