    Barrens of fire

The good news is there are showers over the area right now, and the forecast calls for cool and damp weather the next couple of days which will help put these fires out. Like that guy at the press conference said, the only way these fires are going to be put out is by rainfall. I see there are...

    Barrens of fire

Reminds me of the big fire we had on Long Island out in Westhampton. According to what I've heard, the fire started in Warren Grove around routes 539 & 72, I'm amazed at how far it has traveled, all the way to Barnegat already (I'm assuming the developments off W.Bay ave west of GSP are in...

    Ft.Dix Plot Filed

That is exactly what I am saying. I see all these illegals stuffed into landscaping and construction trucks, why aren't the people that hire them arrested, fined, and shut down. These companies that hire illegals are commiting treason (it used to be a crime...) against the country and breaking...

    Ft.Dix Plot Filed

And I was reading something about MS-13 hair styles and clothing, and realize alot of these people are working and living in our communities. Businesses really need to be required to make sure they are hiring citizens or legal immigrants. But as long as nothing is done about it, criminals will...

    Ft.Dix Plot Filed

Yup, ever the more reason we need to put a stop to allowing illegal criminals coming here and flouting the laws. La Raza, and other organizations (MS-13) are becoming very militant and want to overthrow democracy and put communism in place. We need to seal our borders now. And get rid of those...

    A Simpson's Sky

Nothin like a deep blue sky with little puffy clouds (known as stratocumulus). Sure beats having contrails covering the sky like we had yesterday.

    Island Beach State Park

Nice, reminds me of Fire Island. Walking isn't a problem for me, 4-5 miles out and back is perfectly doable for me.

    Permethrin...impossible to find in stores

Looks like I'll be going to Walmart soon. The ticks are bad this year because of the mild winter and warm spring. Once we have real winters again, maybe we'll have less ticks. Of course if this is from global warming, it's only going to get worse.

    Permethrin...impossible to find in stores

So far I've been to Home Depot, Target, CVS, Rite-Aid, Eckard and no luck finding permethrin treatments for clothing. All they have are DEET based products. And I know from my experience, DEET is useless for stopping ticks. Why don't stores carry permethrin? I guess the DEET lobby is so big and...

    Campers at Columbus?

Wow, what a thread. It's like reading a book, hearing everyone's camp stories. There is a Boy Scout camp out in Suffolk county here on Long Island, I think it's the Roosevelt troop. It's in Wading River and is known as the Schiff camp. There is public access to Deep Pond (for fishing only) on...

    Campers at Columbus?

I lost my grandmother in a similar way in 1998. She had a severe headache and pretty soon was unable to communicate with anyone and started speaking crazy. An ambulance was called but her brain was so severely damaged. She did survive for about a year, on machines, but was "brain dead". It was a...

    Dunes in The Pines

Well I guess they are different. If anyone has pictures of those unique dunes in NJ I'd love to see them.

    Dunes in The Pines

The Walking Dunes of Napeague, NY are active parabolic dunes near the glaciotectonically-deformed Hither Hills on the south fork of Long Island (click here for an aerial image). for more click here http://rock.geo.sunysb.edu/~davis/WalkingDunes.htm From what I read it sounds like these...

    Dunes in The Pines

I'd love to see some pictures. I wonder if this is similar to the walking dunes in Napeague (on Long Island). Sure sounds like it, since in both cases the dunes move with the wind and any development could threaten their existance.

What dangerous animals live in the pines?

I have to agree that DEET stinks, at least for ticks. When I did that Brookhaven State Park trip I was on a narrow trail, with touching some brush on occasion and I get this big red tick on me, just after dousing my pants in this exact spot with DEET!(Deep Woods OFF). I think it was a dog...

Brookhaven State Park - hiking the Brookhaven trail

The yellow blazed Brookhaven trail runs through this preserve and I hiked most of it on April 20th. It's a kinda narrow trail, and I paid for that by getting some ticks on my clothes, despite my use of Deep Woods OFF! They were large red ticks though, dog ticks I think. Anyway here's some of the...
