    Thanks. Looking at historic aerials, you can see that sometime between 1940 and 1951, the creek was dug out deeper and wider to make a sort of pond (looks like for recreational purposes). The mound you visited were part of the dredge spoils.

    From what I gather, most Romanis around the world embrace the term "gypsy." Most of the people complaining are likely the same sort of people that think terms like "blacklist" and "blackout" are racially insensitive.

    Al, the outer rim of sand was placed there so that the clay could be shaped such that the tar would collect at the center.
