    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

Al, I suspect you are correct, but are you absolutely sure you got to the exact location? You were on target last Sunday, so I assume you are correct. I am in the process of documenting similar features throughout South Jersey. There are many. My suspicion is that these were beaver dams that...

    Dams on Buckshutem Creek

@Spung-Man, I'm a tad confused. This looks to be about where the beaver pond was. Correct? Is this the beaver dam? Edit: or did man improve upon the beaver dam at that location?

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Guy, I think the article you are referring to might be "Hanged In Three Places, Buried In Two." I haven't been able to find it online, however.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Not the same road as the one depicted on that map.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

There does appear to be faint, straight line through the swamp here. Possibly, just possibly the old road from/to the landing.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Al, check out this map. It depicts a road from Mordecai Landing that goes north through the swamp. Problem is, I don't see diddly squat on lidar that suggests this road was ever there. If it was there at one point, it looks like it would have been quite close the the ditch here...

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Yes, he was an editor for the Camden Courier Post, and he frequently wrote for the Star-Ledger.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

I don't recall ever reading that article. Was it a Starr-Ledger?

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Jersey Genesis pg. 284. Can't say this is the same saw mill site for sure, but it sure seems very likely.

Boyd, is there 2019 lidar data for Burlington County in existence? Can't recall if you said so or not.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Al, Checkout this map used by the British in planning the attack on Chestnut Neck, the Forks and Batsto. Present day 542 in the vicinity of Batsto is about where the road depicted on this map was, a good distance from the dunes. There would be no reason to construct a defense so far from the road.

Al, dunes like that are all over the area. Look immediately to the east and you find this: https://boydsmaps.com/#14.00/39.627062/-74.573964/lidar2021bw/0.00/0.00
