Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

I take, of course, no umbrage at your decision. You've done an amazing job. I will say, however, that, to my eyes, the rendering of the old LIDAR clearly yielded a higher resolution. But I'm not complaining. P.S. I have many tools in my arsenal with which to defeat Alfie.

Boyd, I'm thinking of these maps: https://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/welcome-to-lidar-boydsmaps-com.13293/page-6#post-160003

No, these are Al's own musings.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

I believe I'm thinking of the 2019 lidar. I can only say for certain that it was a higher resolution than the 2021 lidar and that it included imagery of Mordecai Swamp.

That looks like the same imagery, but you had made it available for much of Burlington County before taking it down. I was wondering if there was by any chance anywhere I can find that imagery for Burlington County.

I'm loving the 2022 Lidar! Nice work as always.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Al, I just looked back at past discussions between you and I on these trenches. We've been debating this for over 10 years! It is about time we've settled the issue and figured out what is what. I will admit that there is still a sense of mystery about these ditches, and I think you've raised...

Al, let's get back there and re-examine those ditches.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

@Boyd Is that higher quality of lidar still available somewhere? I think I recall there being some old roads in the vicinity that don't quite show up on the 2021 lidar.

They wouldn't have made it past the forks in any boat, not because of the shoaling but because it was a hotbed of Rebel operations.

It's closer to Batsto. We visited this saw mill when we hiked the 1808 road.

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Al, you crack me up. Last time you mentioned this idea, you weren't nearly as dogmatic about your conjecture. Did you dig your heels in the sugar sand once I challenged you? Hehe. No way these were trenches dug out to thwart a British invasion. There would be no reason to expect the British to...

Old road running through Mordecai Swamp

Beautiful shots! I miss that chunk of woods. Your post has inspired me to return in the near future. Jesse Richards had the road laid out in 1808. I haven't found much information beyond that basic fact, however.

    Bamber to Island Beach

https://online.boydsmaps.com/#20/39.91221/-74.28908/njgin2007i Here is where you want to put in. Definitely start as early as you can. Personally, I'd divide the trip with an overnight stealth camp.

    Bamber to Island Beach

@Hewey and I paddled from Bamber several years back. As German said, it is tough going. Definitely don't do it in a canoe. The channel is anastomosing, shallow, and chock-full of fallen tree trunks and limbs.
