    Phone Skope Experimenting

Thanks Boyd and 46er. The main reason I got the Phone Skope attachment was to get more use out of my spotter. I really only ever use it for sighting rifles a few times a year. It’s fun but a little cumbersome getting a picture framed and ready to shoot with this type of setup. I felt like a...

    Phone Skope Experimenting

Well if one thing is for sure, I can always procrastinate tomorrow. I finally got around to toying around with Phone Scope at Cape May this weekend. I think I have only had it for a year now. I am very pleased with the results. I am using a Redfield 20-60x x 80mm spotter and an iPhone 6. The...

    Pine Pollen

I call it Oak Snot. Our yard is filled with it. Hoping tonight's storms whip most of it off. Gutters are already plugged. Just planted one of my two vegetable gardens with pepper, tomato and cucumber plants and the hail started. Yaaay !

    Those durn GPS

GPS has stranded and sunk a lot of people and their vehicles down in these parts. I've pulled a few out and so has my son Mike. It doesn't seem to happen as much as it used to and I suppose mapping software has evolved to avoid choosing unimproved roads like those in Wharton as practical routes.

    Woodchuck Hunting

The Savage 220 bolt that I use for deer is rifled. It is essentially a rifle that shoots a 260 gr. bullet that happens to be seated in a shotgun shell. It is legal for all of the shotgun deer seasons in NJ.

    Woodchuck Hunting

The small caliber muzzleloader rifle for squirrel was another surprising rule change German. I remember it when it came out. A few friends of mine went out and bought .36's and still go out occasionally. I just wish I could use a conventional .22 :(

    Woodchuck Hunting

As I said Bob, there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to our evolving hunting rifle laws. I like where we are at now vs when I was a kid. Another strange rule came out of nowhere a few years ago when they legalized air rifle for small game. The minimum allowable velocity is 600 f.p.s...

    Woodchuck Hunting

The NJ laws with regard to rifle use have always been somewhat contradictory and a little surprising German. When I was a kid in the 1960's, NJ was a no rifle State. The first thing that crept in was .22 shorts for dispatching trapped animals and coon hunting with dogs. Then came the...

    Woodchuck Hunting

Important reminders for those who may be interested in pursuing groundhogs in NJ: -Rifles cannot be used for groundhog hunting in State Forests, Parks or Wildlife Management Areas. -Centerfire rifles less than .25 caliber may use any bullet weight. Rifles in calibers greater than .25 cannot use...
