    Which GPS to buy?

The Garmin 60CSX is the best handheld out there, in my humble opinion. It gets a lock inside of a building, is easy to use, has an electronic compass, bright screen, waterproof, floats and you can add pre-programmed micro sd's of the navigational and topographic charts in a few seconds. You can...

    The Mordecai Revisited

It is painfully obvious that you two are not to be left without adult supervision. Next time I shall have to extend my chaperoning until you two are safely picked up by your parents. :)

    The Mordecai Revisited

Steve, You might have been able to handle this area. The total hike was only 2.5 miles +/- and most of it was on the level road bed. Water crossings were small and few and required only knee boots. You stepped in and stepped out. If you want to give it a try, let me know and I could meet...

    The Mordecai Revisited

Today I was fortunate enough to be able to retrace some of the recent steps of Ben, our website host, with him and a few other members of the site in the awesome Mordecai Swamp. It was a beautiful day to be in the big woods and I learned quite a bit about an area that I have overlooked for...

File Conversion .gdb to .dxf or .dwg?

I am amazed at the accuracy of the Garmin 60CSX handheld. On this particular project I tested it by letting it "burn" a position for 10 minutes on two of our traverse points. The points were about 400' apart. I turned on the WAAS and placed the unit on top of the points. I marked each point...

File Conversion .gdb to .dxf or .dwg?

The GPS Babel site has a ton of interchangeable formats between Magellan, Garmin Raymarine and just about anyone else's map software. It does not however have the normal drawing file extensions.

File Conversion .gdb to .dxf or .dwg?

We are using the evil Civil 3D however that was not the issue. I do not use cad atall but our draftsman don't seem to like Civil 3D. I know you can flip dwg and dxf . My issue was converting Garmin's .gdb to dxf in Mapsource. Now I have to figure out why it worked today as opposed to...

File Conversion .gdb to .dxf or .dwg?

Eureka II. Just for the hell of it, I tried the "save as" option again in Garmin after I got done doing the above task and selected the dxf file type in the drop down box. For some reason, it worked this time (opertator error the first time I am sure) and I was able to open the track in...

File Conversion .gdb to .dxf or .dwg?

Eureka!! I saved the track in Mapsource as a .gpx I then opened USA Photomaps and imported gpx track files. In the gps toolbar in USA I displayed the track on the map. I then saved it as a screen jpeg. The jpeg image is workable with Autocad according to my draftsman and it is brought in as...

I will try dumping it to USA. I will ask this morning about the Excel possibility.

File Conversion .gdb to .dxf or .dwg?

Guy, Boyd or others may be able to help me with this I hope. I have a track stored in my Garmin 60CSX that I need to plot in AutoCAD for a project in work. The track displays in Garmin's Mapsource and I have an option to "save as" a .gdb (Garmin's file type?) or .dxf file type. dxf is...

    Hiking the Great Swamp Again

Great to see you posting there again young fellow!! Bill, there is a lively exchange going on right now in the Recreation forum about off roading in the pines. Perhaps you can enlighten some of the people with your tales of tooling through the pines on Harleys, Triumphs and BSA's back in the...

    Alquatka Branch, a PBX Hike

It was a beautiful day on planet earth yesterday and we got to see a lot of things that few people ever get to see from a perspective that few will ever have. Here is Paul next to a potential record sassafras. I found that I will have to buy the NJ Big Tree list from NJDEP to check to see...
