    Upcoming Outage: Site Maintenance

I did most of the migration and then noticed a problem on the new server, so we're back running on the old one for the time being. Whee!

    Upcoming Outage: Site Maintenance

I've started the migration of the data from the old to the new server. During this time I've closed the image gallery so that no files can be uploaded while the synchronization runs. Before I migrate the database I'll have to shut the forums down so that no posts get lost. Hopefully the...

    Upcoming Outage: Site Maintenance

Hey everyone: My hosting company is asking me to migrate the site to a new server. They're in the process of spinning up a new machine for me. Once that is done I'm going to begin the somewhat arduous process of moving all of the data and databases over to the new machine. I am not 100% sure...

    The Aserdaten Tract Location

I have both editions of the 1986 printing of the Genealogical History of the Rutherford Family in my possession now. At first glance it's not mentioning anything about Stuyvesant Rutherford, ala Rutherford Stuyvesant. The book traces the Rutherfords all the way back to Scotland, and they're...

    Which Smartphone?

That's one of the reasons why I like the iPhone so much. It's the perfect size. Do other phones have bigger screens? Yes. Do they fit in my pocket? No. I dated a girl that had a Droid Razr and it was ridiculously huge.

THE BARRENS: NEW ALBUM RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT

I got a copy of Jeff's CD the other day. I listened to it during my commute back and forth from Princeton today. It was REALLY good. Reminded me a lot of Steve Howe's solo guitar tracks with Yes.

    NJPB Live Maps Important Update

FYI, Topos and DOQ's are down due to Terraserver shutting down. I'll try to switch them over to the NJ OGIS servers when I get a chance. You can check out the thread about Terraserver here: http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/threads/usaphotomaps-emergency.8255/

    The Aserdaten Tract Location

To be honest, I don't even know where the notes I took from that day are. I'd need to go back and request the files again.

    The Aserdaten Tract Location

Well, that's assuming that his involvement in Lacey was "important" enough to be documented. It got scant attention in Rutherfords own papers at the NY Historical Society.

    Hey! Look what I found

Oh, I'm sure they didn't fit a motor to it. I was thinking it was towed. (I think it's more likely it was pulled by a horse.) Is that another axle in front of it, or a corduroy log?

    The Aserdaten Tract Location

I've just put a request in to have the two volumes of the Rutherford family history pulled from ReCAP and brought to Firestone for me to pick up this week. Stay tuned, hopefully I'll be able to clear up some of the lingering questions of Rutherford Stuyvesant's involvement in Lacey.

    Hey! Look what I found

Bear in mind that the wheels and axles may have been "recycled" into some form of wagon that could have been towed by a motor vehicle. So you might be able to date the construction or design of the wheel, but not (reliably) when it was last used.

    The Aserdaten Tract Location

Fascinating! Excellent detective work! I'm still curious why it's called the "Aserdaten" tract, though. I wonder who owned it before the Reeves. (I'm assuming that the document is spelling out the survey for a sale or transfer of ownership from the three Reeves to Foster, Hollinshead, and Stokes.)
