Bound Brook man drowns at Heritage Minerals

Maybe they're starting construction. The mill buildings were all knocked down a few years ago.

You already live in Bamber. How much far away would you, or could you, get?

Walden, or Life in the Woods

Thoreau's family owned a pencil factory, and he actually made a lot of advances in pencil technology. But, yes, back in the 1840's it was much easier to "live off the land" than it is now. If you want to disappear off into the woods you're giving up a lifestyle that is far more lavish, even if...

Walden, or Life in the Woods

I didn't mind the philosophy - I just thought that he was a little too hash on the townsfolk in Concord.

Time For Wining in The Pines !

There is a vineyard in Kutztown, PA - Pinnacle Ridge - that makes a really good Concord wine. Nothing beats Scotts, but this comes very close. I don't know if any places in NJ carry it - I have two bottles tucked away from when I drove through on my way back from Centralia. I'm saving them for...

    Development in Mt Misery??

This is weird. On Bing maps some of the "roads" are straight lines of trees: http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=39.912119216041425~-74.50188840705775&lvl=17&dir=0&sty=h&form=LMLTCC I think I'm going to have to change my answer to "forestry experiment."

    The Jersey Taverns

None of the sources I used even touched on where the alcohol came from. I'm guessing some of it was imported from England, some of it was made locally. Rum came from the Caribbean. Apple brandy was definitely made in the Pines, and I'd assume that cider was made locally as well.

    Development in Mt Misery??

Well, I don't see them being used for trails. That leaves them for firebreaks or logging. I just don't understand why they'd put firebreaks so close to each other. The firebreaks I have seen in the woods have been more substantial and not so closely spaced. Maybe it was an earlier technique of...

    Development in Mt Misery??

That makes no sense. Are the lines just cuts in the trees or geology? Where's Spung-Man when you need him?

    Impassible roads

You should. As far as unrestored "ghost towns" in the Pines, it's the best preserved.

Walden, or Life in the Woods

I just finished reading Walden. Even though it's over one hundred and fifty years old and the prose is a bit difficult to follow at times, it was a great read. Thoreau was pretty progressive - very interested in Eastern philosophy at a time when it was still largely unknown to folks in America...

    2011 Double Trouble cranberry harvest

I haven't been to Cloverdale since before the fire. Did they rebuild the packing house? Or are they just going to cart the berries off somewhere to have them processed?
