    Music for the day

I followed the Dead during the Ship of Fools Tour all along the east coast. What a great time. I think that was the summer tour of '94 . My friends and I lived out of a Subaru stationwagon traveling from places like Highgate, Vermont to Buckeye, Ohio. The trip as a whole is blurry but I do...

    Hurricane

I couldn't believe it. Wegman's located in Lawrenceville has nothing on the shelves. It looks abandoned. I was in the area and wanted one of their great sandwiches for lunch. When I got to the door I just turned around. I hope it doesn't get bad.

    The NEW Beer Thread

The Pliny was a great IPA. Its has a piney/citrus scent to it and the taste is mild and crisp. It fades into a nice bitterness on your tongue. I have just started getting back into enjoying great beer again. Its probably been six years or so since I have indulged. My normal stock is...

    Anyone here grow their own?

I was just thinking about pickle and canning. How are your results and is it worth the effort? The only down side to freezing peppers is that they tend to retain a large amount of water which is why they won't crisp later. You can rinse them under warm water to thaw them and dry them with a...

    The NEW Beer Thread

Tonight I'm trying a beer I have been meaning to try brewed by the Russian River Brewing Company. Pliny the Elder is what I will be sharing with friends. I avoided reading about it in Beer Advocate just so I can judge it on my own. As an additional treat I believe another surprise might be in...

Southern pine beetles killing trees in NJ

I know there are other bark beetles and not all are invasive. Are these beetles doing most of the damage by themselves or are there other factors as well? I ask this because I read that in the southern states these beetles can be accompanied by engraver beetles and black turpentine beetles as...

    Anyone here grow their own?

I mean vegetables. So far this year my garden has been a success. All of the plants have survived and are producing a bountiful crop for me. The heirlom tomatoes are suffering from leaf wilt and over watering, but have filled the basket in my pantry none the less. Zucchini, Summer squash...

    Hurricane

The latest report states that the hurricane is moving Northwest at twelve miles an hour. The eye would take atleast an hour to travel over a given spot.

    Hurricane

I can't even begin to imagine the beach erosion that is going to occur let alone the damage to the shore communities. The growth along the coastline has been drastic in the last few decades. When was the last time that New Jersey was hit by a hurricane with some weight behind it?

    Earthquake?

It seems everyone has a story to tell but me. I was busy out in the field at work and didn't even notice. I always miss the the good stuff.

Northern Pitcher Plant and Nitrogen Pollution

Im in agreement with you Teegate. I have always been interested in bog flora, but just recently started to focus and become more serious in my observations of these areas just as a hobby. I figured this would be a good starting point as any.

Northern Pitcher Plant and Nitrogen Pollution

I was reading notes from a study that was done in New England on how excess nitrogen in rain water has changed the appearance of the Northern Pitcher plant. The study was done by the University of Vermont and Harvard. It was stated that more reactive nitrogen is circulating in the environment...

    Revisiting the Parker Preserve

Guy have you stumbled upon the pair of Adirondack chairs? They are huge! It must have been hard work to get those two chairs up that slight incline and into the woods. If I remember correctly there location is on the green blazed trail and just off of the bog. I would have to check my GPS to be...

    Redfin Pickerel Do Not Exist!!!

Gibby is my nickname Bob, to many Roberts in my family. I have never seen the lake drained. That little area has so much to offer and yes it is very beautiful. The trick is, as in any place you want to fish in New Jersey, that if you can get to an area with the greatest of ease dont even bother...

    Redfin Pickerel Do Not Exist!!!

Do you have a canoe or a kayak? A fun little spot is the small lake where Lacy Road crosses the Davenport Branch. If you can get into the backside of that where the stumps are it is so much fun. Its just outside of Whiting.
