Boyd's Map of the Pines beta available

I finally got my Oregon 450. I loaded Boyds nj 2012, some of US Topo East and Wharton 1995 aerials into the main memory. I I have an Amazon 16G micro sd, 10 and am loading that with Garmin Birdseye. Since downloads are limited to 230 MB, I must make a mosaic. What techniques does anyone have to...

    Pieces Of Hampton Park History

Thanks for the post Lost Town Hunter, it cleared up allot of misconceptions. Do you have any idea of when the name Hampton was first used for this area? I have always assumed it dated from the furnace era.

    Logging of State-Owned Forests

When I participated in the firewood program we were only allowed to take oak, this did not thin out the pines which is much needed.

    Oregon 450 touch screen calibration

Thats exactly what happened. I pulled it out of my pocket and it was asking me to touch the dot. I did this twice, got annoyed thinking it was a stupid game mode and turned it off. It never mentioned calibration. Bear in mind I had gloves on and was in a windy field and had no time for this...

    Hiking the Parker Preserve

What kind of dates did you see? I've never seen any older than 1928, but now I'll start looking. I saw the stones but they looked bore like bags of concrete and are quite worn.

    Hiking the Parker Preserve

Polcat, I'm glad you joined the site. It was nice meeting you and your friends out at Parker on Sunday. I was afraid you would think I was sending you on a snipe hunt when I dropped you off at the end of Apple Jack Rd. I know how dense and wet it can be back there. Here is a link to a great...

    Oregon 450 touch screen calibration

Boy did I learn this the hard way. I was using a friends GPS the other day, I don't get mine until Christmas, and put it in my pocket without locking the screen. There's no telling what buttons got pushed. Well the touch screen stopped working on certain parts of the screen. I couldn't get to...

    Hiking the Parker Preserve

On Sunday we decided to revisit the RR trestle I used to canoe under in the early 70's, I hadn't been there since. This is just downstream from Chatsworth Lake and was reached by taking the red trail east from the parking lot. Looking east. It is in good shape but I don't know if it would take...

Putting Farmland On A Fertilizer Diet

The Chesapeake Bay has been dead for some time now. I used to boat it. I camped at Elke Neck State Park and there were warnings not to go into the water due to bacteria.Th only fish I saw were dead. Back in 1991 there were puppy stripers everywhere we went floating dead in the water.

Boyd's Map of the Pines beta available

Right into the GPS, and aerial maps as well. MY Garmin 60cs will no longer get a lock so it was time to move up. Besides even when it was new the 60cs would almost never get a lock in a car or house. I borrowed a 450 and it's way better.

Thanks everyone for your help. I figured someone went through this already. Boyd, that's an interesting observation on startup speed vs card size. Ed

Boyd's Map of the Pines beta available

I am now an enthusiastic owner of a 450. Can you provide some guidance on Garmin's Birdseye imagery? Do you like it? Do I need to add memory and how much will the 450 support? I have loaded Boyd's New Jersey and Wharton 1995. From what I can tell the 450 has 1 G of internal memory. Thanks, Ed

    Parker Preserve suspension bridge

No Al, it crosses a canal that drains the bogs into the Wading. That canal has as much flow as the Skit and could be paddled if you could get a kayak in there. I would also like to kayak from Chatsworth Lake. I think it is very doable to 563 and also to the lower boundary of Parker, near the...

    Pieces Of Hampton Park History

A great report Guy. Hampton Park is finally getting some flesh on it. BTW, why did you call it Hampton Park, I never heard of the area being called that before? I can't help but wonder if they have some more old pictures of the area.

    Parker Preserve suspension bridge

Yesterday we took lunch to a nice picnic spot on the Wading River. There are many benches, some with tables scattered around the preserve. This spot is near the bridge. The bridge is on the red trail. We took the green trail to stay out of the woods but the two trails join at the bridge so...
