What's the story behind the blue pond at Franklin Parker?

I've likely been to that one (off 532, right?). They dug the sand out to build dikes or use it for something else. Therefore it is like any gravel pit you see that was man made. It is really the upper ground water level they have reached by their digging. Why the blue color? I'm not sure...

JD, yes, we were on the old Burlington County line when he took that photo.

Locations of Wharton Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs)

I had no idea that sand pit on Hampton Road was there. I suppose it's hidden when driving on the road.

State lawmaker seeks to ban texting while walking

Some things in life are worth a ticket. Just to see their startled face would be sweet.

State lawmaker seeks to ban texting while walking

I'm sympathetic with the city drivers on this one, but you should not try to ticket this rude behavior. But drivers should band together and lean on the horn if anyone crosses in front of them against the crosswalk light while staring at a screen.

    Detailed Map?

I really think Batsto Village should be first on the list. You drive a bit more, but you can get a lot of information there too.

    Martha & Harrisville

Guy, if you have not read this, it makes for an interesting read. These 1899 botanists traveled from Tuckerton to the plains and crossed Allen's bridge, then headed through Martha, Batsto, and thence to Quaker Bridge and Atsion. http://www.jstor.org/stable/4062671?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents

I was wrong about the fire. I found a 2010 aerial on Google Earth that shows the ground was burned, but it was unburned in 2008. Here's an article somewhat related, but I'm still looking for a 2009 or 2010 fire notice...

Apple opposes Judge's order to unlock shooter's phone

Apple has egg on their face. They only made things worse. As one of the posters said (paraphrased here): When Apple resisted, and said it could not be done, every hacker in the world that had a bit of pride tried to get in...only making the phones less secure...and...the next time law...

I have to say that "centipede" was my favorite waypoint. I forgot to snap a shot of it. What a cozy little copse of trees that is.

Guy, thanks for your help and support. It was a great day. We gave it a 9. Scott and Chris were helpful in logistics support, and Scott's food was outstanding today. And Terry, thanks for coming along on the back end with food and beverage support! It was nice to see everyone. This was a very...

A pond, a stream, and bog

Nice. Imagine how beautiful it would have been if the beaver had not killed all that cedar from damming up the place. "Some cedar swamps have been eliminated by beaver and human dams. An expanding beaver population, also suffering from a loss of wetland habitat, has caused the demise of some...

ORV Management In Sensitive Areas Of Wharton

From what I've read, the state has tried very hard to consider the needs of all the users of the forest except those who like doing donuts and playing in mud with motorized vehicles. Good!

Apple opposes Judge's order to unlock shooter's phone

Yes, I've heard the Israelis may have had a problem with a terrorist or two in the past. :) Amazing that they can get things done and still maintain their freedom, in stark contrast to our country, which holds on to the unreasonable belief that the King is about to behead them and that the...
