    Definition of a Piney

Rightly or wrongly, here is my opinion. I always have thought of a piney as a person with a particular vernacular that descended from the original stock who settled this area; Dutch, Swedish, and Finnish. And of course, he makes his living simply, either off the land or off the sea or bay.

    Where is this?

Whoa! They were real men to bring those I-beams back there, wherever that is. If it was not for erosion, they'd last another 100 years. Is that a lump of concrete with aggregate embedded on the right far side?

    Tuckerton Road Work

Looking at the first photo, it seems plain to me that their problem was the center section of terrain between the wheel ruts is much higher than the bottom of the wheel ruts. That means a hard stuck rear or transmission with no traction at the wheels. Been there, done that. No fun.

An Interesting Pines Post From an Unlikely Website

Right. And then his last sentence: "After an excellent dinner at the Grapevine Restaurant outside of Tuckerton, it was back to the inn for a good night’s sleep. Much more adventure awaited me on the next day—so stay tuned for Part II"

Well done, but not in a day. Could not have happened in one day. Could it? Are you thinking of buying a BMW Scott?

    Prescribed burns

I always respect your view. I do like to vent. Ben let's me as long as I keep it clean. I think it's good, as influential people can see the comments where otherwise only one or two people would. Edit: Maybe I said too much already. Have to learn use more diplomacy.

    Prescribed burns

I'm still for it. However, I have thought about Clearwater run, and what to do there. Maybe reroute the road a bit north to avoid that stream altogether, and clean that area up and tout it as an important and beautiful natural area where only walking is allowed. Think of what has been done...

    Prescribed burns

JD, as to each of your comments, I dare to reply thusly: JD said: I don't like a lot of things including what happenes in the Pines, but I can't stop it especially when Pinelands approves. Personally I don't like all the access roads that have been upgraded from the original stagecoach roads...

    Music for the day

Very cool Gabe. Intense music. I could smell a fire while listening, and the burning sound at the end is a nice touch. Well done!

    Blueberries

Espo55, don't think that we have not pondered your question several times ourselves. It frankly is a hard one to answer. There are subtle differences that cross over between species. I'll bet that like me, most of the field botanists that frequent this site have steered clear of answering this...

Forked River Mountain Cleanup Sunday 19 April

As usual, Chris and I will be leading separate crews to clean up certain areas. If you'd like to participate, Chris will be up by Bamber in the Greenwood Forest. I'll be in pretty deep, down by the Middle Branch of the Forked River. If you'd like to help me, four wheel drive is necessary. If you...
