Job's Old Swamp, A PBX Hike

That first paragraph in your post is classically you Scott...what a hoot! This is my track to Troy Island with Mike. How does yours compare? Can you see where we all got scarred up and blocked by the briar wall?

Job's Old Swamp, A PBX Hike

Guy, that was a tough hike, even for our standards. A very primitive swamp. Mountain laurel 10-14 feet high along with heavy brier made it difficult, but I would not have it any other way. Another tromp through an area that few people see. Thanks for the trip, and for your support. I did not...

    Lines on the Pines 2015

I don't know where her studio is, so I can't help you. My favorite pinelands artist is Terry Schmidt, and she is always at Lines on the Pines. I purchased the below painting from her this year. This is an actual place in the pine plains. When it comes to painting pineland scenes, Terry really...

    Information on Rt.72 Pig Works

The plate would say..."hey, stop slurping on me pig"! One time my family and I were down the shore riding around...I think it may have been near Cape May or something south of here. We saw a stack of plates that a diner had thrown out by their trash. You know the kind, real thick and...

    Information on Rt.72 Pig Works

I say Well, it really is just an old pig farm site. I don't see any harm in revealing that.

    Where is this?

Pretty slim clues Guy. Define what you mean by "signs". Sounds like that has some significance (i.e., other than road signs).

    Prescribed burns

JD, if it is allowed to return to its natural state, then they don't need the road, so they never should have bulldozed it. Do you understand that concept? You and I are different in how we approach things that were done by the state. My nature is to question authority with a skeptical mind...

    Where is this?

Yes Terry! You know, before the road was there, there was no problem...but since it does not have a dam or culvert in a proper place, the water backs up behind the road.

    Prescribed burns

I'm a burr under your saddle, right JD? I really irritate you. An itch you can't seem to scratch. I exasperate you, and make your eyeballs bulge out when you read my posts on this topic. I am irksome, galling, and grating to your tender sensibilities. Be careful or you'll blow a gasket. :D

    Prescribed burns

I don't know the exact depth. For the bulldozer, he goes deep enough to get all the shrub roots at a minimum. The below cut is the only fire cut they made as a result of this mess. I'm guessing 10"?

    Prescribed burns

Hmm. So, a fire is blazing away...what are they going to do, ride down the road and put their truck and lives in deep danger? If the cedar swamp and adjacent river does not stop the fire (in most cases it does), then it damn sure was too hot to go down that road.

A shot of the woods away from the road. What is the deal here? What are they afraid of?

    Prescribed burns

Some photos of the new road. As usual, they didn't just do a bulldozer width, every so often they scoured another several yards to push all the vegetation out of the way. They even plowed a lot of the huge laurel to the edge of a cedar swamp slope. It looks terrible. A sad day in Ocean County.

    Prescribed burns

I went to look at the new road they made. It makes no sense at all why this was done. It is down by Dover Forge. There was never a road there. It was big open woods--I was in there last year, enjoying the peace and solitude by the river. This reckless act changes all that. It protects nothing...

Ahh, I see. The last few times I was there the water was much less than that. I had forgotten about that day.
