    Macs Infected With Flashback Malware

As the writer questions above...do you Mac users still feel that smug superiority? Do you miss the good old days? :p

    Could Use Some Help

Michael, that is a very interesting spot that you've zeroed in on. Remote, but not remote. There is a very good chance that humans steer away from that area. If you notice, it is almost completely surrounded by wetlands, meaning most people would not bother to get in there. There will be...

    Another 5AM outing

Don, say "My Cheese Caught Oxen". Say it fairly quickly. It may not be perfect, but it's close enough to pass among company.

    Barred Owl

Good sighting. Very rare. I saw a big owl carrying a rabbit 100 yards away, but that is the closest I ever got.

    White flowers

    A white Xyris. Nice.

Tree Cutting on Quaker Bridge Rd.

Nice photos of the Xyris Guy. Thanks. That is probably a mixture of X. fimbriata an X. smalliana.

NJ has one of the lowest obesity rates

To me, it's clear. Those red states have food deserts due to poverty levels. No decent grocery stores and a plethora of fast food grease pits.

    What about the Manahawkin Road?

Interesting subject. I note that, before Gordon's 1833 map, that not many (if any) major roads crossed that wilderness through which the Plains Branch and Papoose Branch flowed. So it was probably after 1815 that it was really formed. Most of the roads other than the Tuckerton Road, predating...

The Mullica, Atsion to Pleasant Mills. A PBX paddle.

Good photos Chris. Thanks for putting it together, and thanks again for the pork sandwiches. I really love 'em! By the way, that photo of your canoe is really good (4th from the bottom). Try cropping out the close bank with it's highlighting bright spot, and it will be a great photo.

    Manchester re-zones for development

Thanks for the reply Mark. Here in Bamber we have 80 to 100 homes within 1,500 feet of the lake. All are on septic. If they went from that to a packaged system, don' t they have to have an outfall somewhere? Seeing that empty into Cedar Creek, even if cleaned, would ruin my day.

    Manchester re-zones for development

Mark, I am curious. Is there a way to get villages off of septic systems without increasing development?

Tree Cutting on Quaker Bridge Rd.

Guy, I researched that "ugly" xyris. It is endangered in NJ. Xyris fimbriata. http://plants.usda.gov/java/nameSearch?keywordquery=xyris+fimbriata&mode=sciname&submit.x=14&submit.y=8

    South Jersey

This is an interesting article. Read the "talk" comments too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Jersey Those who wrote the article and the two talking points have a deep misunderstanding of Ocean County places, and what it would mean to leave them out. If you go by their boundary, the...

    Another 5AM outing

Nice photos Guy. Luna's mating is probably a very rare sight. Those white flowers are likely from the Genus Sagittaria. That one you say looks like corn very much intrigues me. It is not familiar. Were there others besides that one? Does the inflorescence belong to the grass leaf in front of...

    Tucker's Isle

Al, in some countries, people like you, me, and Guy don't need no stinking special priviliges. As far as freedom goes, this country is relatively stingy for a free country. See this interesting link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_to_roam

    August blooming Orchids

Michael, if you find yellow fringed in the Pine Barren's, let me know, and as Howard Boyd told me..."I'll come a running!". To the knowledge, that plant is not found above the Egg Harbor River anymore, unless someone is holding the location secret from me...

My first Orchid of the season

Guy, if you were not where I showed you the Xyris caroliniana years ago, then that looks like it could be Xyris torta, which does have a tuft of hairs at the lateral sepal tip. Tom; I don't see it as fimbriata, which is larger and very definitely fimbriate in a wild, untamed way.
