    Tuesday with Alfie

That large pine bough (3rd from the end on Bill's) is nice. I can almost smell it, and the sun! Well....what more can be said?......the sun! Is that a tree stand remnant right at the start of the branch on the other side of the tree?

    Old pictures of America

I'll bet Guy, that gas was scarce back then due to the lack of refineries and competition.

    Manchester re-zones for development

We (The Forked River Mountain Coalition) are going to make our voice heard regarding a new cluster development being proposed at the south end of Roosevelt City in Whiting. They are making the outrageous presumption that they will be building at the headwaters of a tributary of Cedar Creek, and...

    Old pictures of America

Thanks for the time trip Mark. I liked it. I was surprised to see gas for $.23 a gallon, and it looks like 1935 or so. That seems high!

    Pine Barrens without Fire?

Think of the sound and the fury when that stand of cedar went up in a flash of fire. If you were standing on the edge of the swamp your skin would have dripped right off your bony frame. Kawhoooomph!:siren:

Whats going on at hawkins bridge?

Nice video. I saw Mick Jagger in the audience. That video was colorized later, and there is a unique story behind it.

    Pine Barrens without Fire?

Yes, see the burned cedars in the background. Even if 15 years ago, those pines had to be large at the time of the fire. Now, after the fire they are "living large"!

    Pine Barrens without Fire?

Al, several weeks ago I had Scott, Chris, Ben and Gabe in the Chamberlin Branch area. The 95 fire swept through there like Armageddon. All the cedars (some 30-40 feet high) for the whole width of the swamp were killed in one fiery blast...as well as all the ground cover. But one species did...

    Pine Barrens without Fire?

Chile (I can't write the head part for some reason): To answer you would require a book by someone very knowledgeable on the subject. I am not, but I point you to the chapter entitled "Development of Pine Barren Soils" by John C. F. Tedrow in the great book..."Pine Barrens, Ecosystem and...

    Music for the day

Nancy. Hmmmm.... I love wikipeadia, but I wonder if this I found on there about Playboy is true: ..."At 54 she posed for Playboy in the May 1995 issue and made appearances on TV shows to promote her album One More Time. The magazine appearance caused some controversy. On the talk show...

    Nothing is sacred anymore

I could have, and was planning to....was walking it up a slight incline when I realized the kill switch was off. Guy, this happened before I called you. I went on to the back side of Spring Hill and decided that I should call.

    Nothing is sacred anymore

I almost had to call one of my friends today. I was in deep by myself on my bike in the West Plains. Where the Plains branch crosses this one track, I inched into it too slowly. The ice was about 5/8" thick. The front wheel broke through and the wheel went in to the hub in soft clay. This bike...
