    Wharton Forest Fire 06/10/11

...." Larry Hajna said firefighters planned to establish a perimeter around a 200-acre section of the forest and let the fire burn itself out within that area." Hmmm...now just how do they plan to do that?

    guess what and where?

Sue I remember you telling us about a community that seemed a step back in time, somewhere in the Mount Holly, Rancocas Woods area? Let's get down to business here. Do any of these get us closer? Centerton Smithville Longs Swamp Road near Cookstown Is it an active community....with current...

    Buzby's is up for sale.....

It would be best served as a luncheonette deal I would think....sandwiches, coffee, fishing tackle, maybe a pump out front.

Springtime On The Tulpehocken, A PBX Hike

Calopogon tuberosus...Grass Pink Orchid. I have seen a white one before. Fabulous. The comradeship is 50% of the trip. These two, Chris and Paul, could be talking about hunting, electronics, stock prices, whatever. It is just great....something about getting out there and talking as you explore...

Springtime On The Tulpehocken, A PBX Hike

Thirty more years is absolutely about right Scott. And when we get to 40, I'll hire a coolie to carry me out there and set me in a chair to listen to the warblers and watch the plants grow. This is for Jeff whose leg was twisted from putting a barbecue grill together the day before, and had to...

Springtime On The Tulpehocken, A PBX Hike

Very good photos Chris. I liked the 4th one, the orchids and Pitcher Plant photos best, but I would have paid $10 to have seen Al do that. I was away from you guys when he gave you that invaluable instruction in weight distribution. I am laughing out loud as I type. :p That is definitely rich!

    Plant Trivia

I cheated. I was stumped. I forced Guy to tell me where he photographed it. Turns out I showed him this stand about a year ago. I still can't believe they look like this in bud, but, photo's don't lie. Pickering's Morning Glory. (Stylisma pickeringii var pickeringii)...

Yes Al,...I am always on the look out for Platanthera ciliaris. I know it was here before, but it is all gone except some down by you. I maintain that it is not native to the pines like people like to think though. I could be wrong, but all the records are from roadsides.....leading me to think...

    Our Rancoacas

This photo shows how the Rancocas is changing. This is my son from this morning. He caught this carp in a small canal that was made for a mill in Mt. Holly. It would be interesting to know exactly where the pickeral peter out and these begin. I'd bet somewhere near Smithville?
