Doggone Tom, where are you finding them all! Cool as beans. I have a photo of a white one too. They do hybridize with White Orchids. Now, if you find a yellow fringed (Platanthera ciliaris), I'll come running to see it! Note the longer beard...

Oh man, I really screwed up on that one....I've collected it. I was associating it with the big leaf in the background!

What is that second flower Tom? That is unfamiliar to me. I've never seen it.

Turtle, those leaves look like Golden Club (Orontium aquaticum), or some other aquatic plant. And I think you are right about the Rhynchospora--but it's always best to look at the achene on those.

    Some more random 2010 stuff . . .

Wow, I was looking at those online and the colors are all over the place. While surfing I found this interesting info regarding the coral snake: http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/health/snakebites-about-to-get-more-deadly "Red on yellow, kill a fellow, Red on black, freind of Jack"...

    Paddle invite...

Really, really nice. I wish I were retired to do that kind thing more often. The sunset photo is tops! Yes, yellow crested, and I am really surprised you saw them downstream that far.

What's that, a Corn Snake Bob? Looks like it was cut from a Navajo blanket. Beautiful.

Preparing For A Cedar Creek Crossing

Seriously. Cook's Branch and Sweetwater Run are so cold it takes 15 minutes to get used to it. Feels like 40 degrees. But Cedar Creek proper (downstream several miles) is just right for swimming. Not too cold, not too warm.

    Deer destroy everything

My good friend Anthony Mauro says that...“We have a problem in New Jersey – we have too many deer....They don’t just destroy the habitat they live in, they destroy the habitat other creatures live in.” I say we cuff 'em all. Throw them in Jail. Ship 'em to Iran to create havoc over there...

Water, stone, plants and an orchid....

Nice! I like the Green Bank shot. That sedge is Carex folliculata.

That is a really, really nice photograph Guy. It is hard to take a really nice photo of a white flower, and you've done it.

Mt. Misery Brook access from 70?

I too did that stretch in the early 80's, with a small canoe. It was horrible. We spent half of the trip leaning back, either to get under tree branches or to push them up out of the way. Many of the branches had insects on them, like spiders, and the canoe was littered with floating insects in...
