    Plant ID Help needed

Hi Joyce, The first two are the same plant no? That is winged sumac. The third is cottonweed; Froelichia gracilis. The final is Evening Primrose: Oenothera genus. Smell that flower. It smells like lemon sandwich cookies....yum!

    Sunrise at 1/4 Mile Road

Photos 3, 4, 7, and 8 in Guy's original post look like virgin land destroyed to me. That debunks the argument that they are just following roads already made (which I really have no problem with as long as they existed previously and are not trashed). I've said it before, and I'll say it...

    1/4 mile fun

That is a crying shame Ed. I cannot imagine what that place "used" to look like. I wish I had been there in the 60's. For people to just drop an empty can or bottle into the fire is something my mind cannot wrap around.

    Flower ID

Hey Tommy! That first one looks like Monkey Flower. The second one is likely a Boneset, Eupatorium (perfoliatum?). Have to see the leaves. The third one is unkown--maybe moth mullien? The 4th one is likely an Eleocharis.

    Old Cape May

South Cape May ......"hiding in the dunes with his brother and watching rum runners bring their contraband ashore and, once, shoot it out with the Coast Guard." “How can they deprive kids of those kinds of experiences now?” he asked. Indeed, how could we? I'd like to go down and have a...

Yes, that was it. In that last swamp we visited and you and Jess hung back thinking about just how far out in the wilds we were.

    Flower ID

Each of those is of the Genus Juncus Tom. The first one looks like Juncus debilis. The second one is a vegetative growth that very often forms on Juncus canadensis. I would not be surprised if each were J. canadensis as its form varies somewhat. There is a rare species, Juncus caesariencis (NJ...

    Flower ID

I don't know Tom, it does not look robust enough to be tuberosa, but photos can be deceiving. That end one looks like bugle weed...Lycopus. The second one is a Juncus, probably canadensis. PS: the third one in post 588 looks like New York Ironweed.

Revisiting The Marble Spung And Other Locations

Yes, it truly is. I was just thinking that I could have taken a little swim in Governors Pond, then cracked a cold one, then threw a brat on the grill, and........great stuff!

Revisiting The Marble Spung And Other Locations

Always a good day with you and Jess, Guy! I almost lost my Buddy dog on the way home. He insisted in getting out and running on Webb's Mill Road. He was ahead of me about 30 yards and I saw him jump off towards the center of the road as if a firecracker went off or somebody kicked him. It was...
