Wow, how cool is that! I'll bet those were some very fun and interesting times. Memories, right? Tell a little more; why 8 times, and what are some of the key memories?

No, I don't--not unless someone has them in their yard. The legend goes that they used to be here in Bamber and on Pasadena Road, among some other location or two. I really don't think they are native to the pines, since you never hear of them in a bog; its always alongside such and such...

Ha! That reminds me of those little wind-up bug toys made of metal from the early 50's or so. We are probably not really seeing the face, just the head with markings and camera reflections. That looks like an old concrete dam? I see the rocks are embedded in concrete.

I am actually loving it. If you are not out there, you are missing it. I am starting to become very interested in dragon and damsel flies. This one was on sweetwater run today.

Joyce, that first one may be a pin-weed. But I am just not sure. I don't know what the second one is, but third one is Orange Grass, also known as pineweed. It is actually in the gentian family. I'd like to visit your neck of the woods someday, it looks interesting.

I have wondered the same thing. They often come up with a word that is found in no other technical manuals. However, that piece of work is so monumental and daunting, there is no way they could have done that work by themselves. There must have been hundreds of Botanists and Educators contributing.

Great stuff! That first photo is sweetwater run by Webbs Mill. The third one looks like the Webbs Mill Branch. What is that strangle looking turtle after the leopard frog. Is that a terrapin?

    what is must-see pine barrens?

Has he been to Batsto and Well's Mills and Jakes Branch? All of them have good interpretive centers PLUS the Pinelands in the backyard. If he squints to the south from the roof observatory at Jakes Branch he can see the Forked River Mountains in the distance. At Well's Mill's take him for a walk...

Oh yeah, very very common. They often look slightly different too, depending upon the habitat you are in. They do like dampness most of all. The 'fringe' you see is the either the stigma or stamen. I'm betting its the stigma.

Great stuff Pancoast--every one of them! I like the black bird. If you look you can tell the tree is leaning away from you at the top (at least it appears to me).

    Free cat to good home

Not getting a lot of action on this one, eh Dave? :) I had a cat I needed to get rid of. I put it on Craigs List and an elderly lady called and took it that day. Another time I posted an ad in the newspaper that said..."I hate my cat. Come take it from me and I'll throw in food plus $10"...
