I would not be surprised Tom, that the bottom right one turns out to be Platanthera blephariglottis. If not, then at least another of the same Genus.

You can't make this stuff up.....

They had a rave at the place (about 7 years ago) behind Bamber that we cleaned up this year. I'll bet this latest one was right about here: http://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.87957627231338&lng=-74.36182022094726&z=17&type=nj2002&gpx= I've seen a big fire ring in the back, where they...

The Batona Trail Diary, the First Thirty Miles

It would be nice to see an interactive map with all the trails. I didn't even know those other trails by the Mullica existed until a couple years ago. We often talk up here about a trail leading from Double Trouble, through the Forked River Mountains and Pine Plains down to Bear Swamp Hill...

Great stuff Tom. Where were you, along the Rancocas by Pemberton? That second one in post 497 is intriguing too, looks like a grape fern.

    The ATV war continues

I don't think its fair, 46'r, to blame the lack of a facility fully on the state. The article clearly discusses the State's attempts to open some up, but the locals would not have it. NIMBY.

They (with the lyre shaped leaves) look like Centaurea nigrescens (a knapweed).

What the heck is that Pancoast! You mean the flowers with the awns in the center of the photo, right? I have never seen anything like it. That serrated leaf on the right though, looks like swamp dewberry (Rubus hispidus).

    jim ungehajer's illness

Good story George. I found "Wind in the Willows" for free the other day (1953), and it has that comfy smell. I can't wait to read it and escape for awhile to a time when innocence ruled the day.

Thanks everyone. To see it closer go to this link and double-click on it. http://gallery.njpinebarrens.com/showphoto.php/photo/13946/title/wolf-1/cat/500 PS: it would be a strange twist of fate if the spider was also caught by the leg in the sundew (Drosera intermidia).

Northern Lebanon State Forest is known for Chestnut Oak. The leaves do lack serrated edges though, maybe they develop later. Not sure it is an oak for that matter.

    Bending or Breaking the rules

I am completely in agreement with Gabe, Guy and Jeff. They said it better than I could. But, I agree they should not be riding anything but their shoes on the Batona trail. If I was caught with a motorcyle on a Batona path, I'd sheepishly agree I should not have been there, and would leave. I...

    Remote Water Bodies

Nice Jeff. I was out Sunday on the Davenport Branch and I came to a part of the stream that braids around a point of land. I crossed a couple of the small streams, and to my surprise the land inbetween the streams rose up to a knob of land about 25 feet higher than the streams. It was very...

Nice photo's Tom. Lakesgirl, I identified some in a Whiting field like that last year as Erigon strigosus (rough fleabane). But without seeing it up close, Tom's guess is just as good. The blue one is Lyre-leaved sage (I think).

    jim ungehajer's illness

Count me as a friend, certainly. I really like Jim. He makes me laugh because he is so open and wears his heart on his sleeve. He won't hurt a fly. Jim is very self-depracating, a trait I find in most people I really like. Please tell him I'm thinking of him.
