    The big Burn

JD: It was August 7 this year. Here are a few more photos, and a surprise photo for Guy (I found some sort of large conical-shaped base (or some such) off to the side, you can see the bolts). I also show broom crowberry. I too noticed the untouched spots. I'm betting they got a guy who knows...

I see you are getting ready to come with PBX Tom. Good, we'll be glad to have you. When we did our explore along Bispham's Mill Creek, we were amazed at how fast that creek tumbles toward the main branch of the Rancocas. It must be a combination of the land fall and narrowness of the stream...

Tom, that is the fertile frond of Woodwardia aerolata....Narrow-leaved chain fern. Those bumps are the spore cases. You see many more of the infertile fronds, which are broader and more fern looking.

    Waiting for YOU!

Glo, you will only see a few scattered goldenrods and bonesets in late October, and those withering. You would be hard-pressed to be too excited over that considering they are up and down the East Coast. I'm sorry.

Searching For Rare Plants In The Great Swamp

I am definitey more eager than full of time on my hands! I have a lot to do the next few weekends. Lets try in very late September, early October....try to park at the same place and roam far and wide to the north-north west. Try to make a day of it and cook something to eat before we leave maybe.

    Hells Gate

I am reading Washington Irving stories and he describes Hell's Gate back in his day. I was very intrigued (but of course he makes anything sound interesting). I found this....very interesting. http://www.nan.usace.army.mil/whoweare/hellgate.pdf

Definitely not. Pickerings likes very dry bleached white sand. It must be well drained. They are most likely done flowering by now. Look on bare sandy areas around pine trees along the roads, particularly in the eastern side of the bogs.
