    What constitutes the Pine Barrens?

Scott, thanks so much for the tip on the 1931 maps. It opens up an astounding new world for us to explore. GREAT! This is a section close to Whiting. Guess what the dots are. I am positive I know what they are:

    What constitutes the Pine Barrens?

I did everything; changed my system to always accept pop-ups from that site, etc. Nothing. I am going to blame it on my video card.

    What constitutes the Pine Barrens?

Boyd, I have trouble with that site all the time. It does not do what you want it to. You select things like names and munipalities, hit refresh, and it does nothing. Do you have the same problem?

History of Enduro racing in the Pines.

I moved to Bamber in 1982 ZZ, and I remember vividly the trails cut by the enduro. I was told the state put a stop to it as it is a wildlife management area. I don't see that they do any harm at all as long as they are well-managed, infrequent, and that they avoid sensitive areas (snakes...

    Rare White GrassPink

Ken is working tonite. Here is his answer. He's a good guy. Hi Bob, Nice to hear from you. Albino mutants are pretty common in populations of orchids. The Calopogon species seem to vary quite often from pure white to dark pink and everything in between. Some species show this level of...

    A Well at Mount?

What did y'all have for dinner tonite? I'll bet it was anything you wanted, right? Did you go out and get those CD's and clothes you wanted? Didn't dent your wallet a bit, did it. I received an advertising packet in the mail today. They blantantly called me an "affluent" Ocean County...

    Rare White GrassPink

'Tis a fair question Steve, and one I have not pondered. I met Dr. Ken Cameron, an orchid specialist from New York Botanical Garden, several weeks ago. I'll send him the photo and ask him.

    Rare White GrassPink

Saturday was an outstanding day for going into one of my favorite bogs at this time of year. This is prime time for several beautiful species. I found a very rare white colored grass pink orchid I wanted to share with you (Calopogon tuberosus): This one is bog asphodel (Narthecium...

    An embarassing problem

LI, when I get a rash I use zinc oxide ointment. I tried all kinds of other stuff, but this really works as It protects the rash while your body heals. It does not allow your sweat to aggravate the condition. Dry yourself good before you go out, then apply. The best I ever had also had some...

    Exploring today

Our pine barren geology is very complex. The glacial period is just a small piece of the puzzle. Mark Demitroff, Department of Geography, University of Delaware, has studied the area intensely. I'll ask him to post a little more about it. I could throw a few things out for an answer, but chances...

    Eighteenth century piney stereotyping?

I wonder Enoch, by whose standards she was deemed negative. Sounds like a fun girl to me.

    Exploring today

Speaking of gyspy moths, I was out on pasadena road last week and got out of the truck. You could hear the rain from their excretement coming down. They were even eating the lowly scrub oak. I was at the bend in the road where that field is. I love that little spot. Its so quiet and peaceful.

And so with that outlook I started staining my two decks tonite. No sooner had I finished, it thunderstormed and rained good and hard for five minutes. I am really bummed out.
