    Lower Bank, Green Bank

The new owner hasn't changed a thing except that he offers a little more variety including shrimp, conch, mussels, scallops etc. I still call it Cavileer's and its always a good run in the winter time to clam up and go home and have some homemade wine and clams. Old man Cavilleer always had a...

    Lower Bank, Green Bank

The River Road Clam House is on the river at the bend in River Road about 300 yards west (upstream) of the Pacemaker plant. It has a boat ramp on the water across from it. As for the flounder question, yes you can be fined as soon as you cross the state boundary which is the delineated...

    GPS advice

The "technology" really isn't changing much. The biggest improvement in operation of handhelds over the last 10 years has been the change to 12 channel receivers and the incoporation of the chartplotter into the units. I still have my first handheld, a Magellan 315 8 channel non-chart plotting...

    Lower Bank, Green Bank

Jim You should have wheeled in to the river Road Clam House while you were there. I have been going there for 25 years and the new owner Gary, who took over after Horace Cavileer died, has really done a good job keeping it going. He sells day boat scallops that are almost as big as hockey...

    GPS advice

Jeff Although the 60 CSX is twice what you want to pay, I would wait a little and save your pennies and get that unit. I have been using it offshore all summer with the Bluechart chip and it is great. 2 double "A" batteries last up to 30 hours too which is amazing given the color display. I...

    Sandy Ridge Wading Harrisville

The active club on the right is Buck Run. I know a few former members and a couple current members. The caretaker at my sportsmen's club used to hunt out of the one on the left. I will see him this Thursday night and ask him what it was named.

A question for long time cherry hill residents

In 1930, based upon NJDEP aerials, it was adjoining the old railroad in the location of the current tracks today. The 1930 aerials show a few farmhouse type structures and farm fields. My sister worked for Hussman right next door in the late 60's.

    Wild Cherries

I know a local guy that used to make wild cherry brandy by saturating them in PGA (pure grain alcohol) and making a mash. That was some fine drinkin' there.

    Wild Cherries

Yeah Jeff, a lot of sugar in the jam recipe as is the case with most jams.

    Wild Cherries

For any other hunter/gatherer types out there, this week the wild cherries are ripening up in throughout the pines. Look for old fields where the cherry has invaded. It is always around the 3rd week in July. I have been eating gobs of them every night back here near Miller's Bog on my nightly...

    2nd Annual Batsto 5K Run/Walk

I'd settle for trash cans. Pack In, Leave In seems to be the theme in Wharton.

    Stones Pints Smokers

What a trip on a half tank of gas. What motor you runnin', Briggs and Stratton? When you were on Wharton Ave you were in my and Largo's front yards. Wharton Ave. to the west of Pestletown is in good shape and ends at the NJ Transit line. There are neat remnants of the old Wharton Ave Bridge...

NJDEP iMAP 1930 Aerial Photobase Now Available

The Google aerials are taken from NJDEP 2002 Digital Orthos which are the latest availble. If you go to the NJDEP GIS website here, http://www.nj.gov/dep/gis/ and then go to data, downloads, aerial photography you can download the individual high res tiles. You will need a Mr SID viewer to...

NJDEP iMAP 1930 Aerial Photobase Now Available

For those who have toyed with the DEP iMap system it now has a base map layer of 1930 aerial photographs available. I posted this information in another thread but I wanted to do a separate post on the subject. I use the system almost daily in work and the layer just became available. Once you...

    What constitutes the Pine Barrens?

Bob I use it all the time for work, almost daily. Make sure you have all pop up blockers off or you will be booted out just as you are about to open a layer of data. The Big News this month is that they have added a base mapping layer of 1930 aerials. You deselect the 2002 photobase when you...

History of Enduro racing in the Pines.

Those early Harleys were all hardtails. I couldn't imagine a 250 mile event on a hardtail. I remember how happy I was when I traded my 1976 Yam 400 with 4" of rear travel for a 1978 400 with 7" of travel. Now most off road bikes have at least a foot of travel front and back.

History of Enduro racing in the Pines.

My buddy Bill Schemel, age 81, rode during those time periods and is still active with the South Jersey Enduro Riders. I sent him the link to this post. Perhaps he can add to it. Scott

    6/16 herping trip...pines and corns

This snake stuff scares the hell out of me. If I randomly stumbled across half of what you guys discover on purpose, I wouldn't go in the woods. :)
