    Natural Stone Formation?

Came upon some stones, unclear if they are natural, dumped or part of an old ruin possibly? The large single stone had what appeared to be drill holes. Location is near the water tower on the Medford - Shamong boarder, off the high tension wires road in a small pit area. Any thoughts?

    Old thing found

Anybody know what this is? Pretty heavy, about 8" across. Assuming it's old iron, maybe a clasp to hold an axel onto a wagon? Found on the north side of Jobstown Bogs in Medford.

    Mullica Put-in Options

Hi all, Finally got a kayak, so planning to do the lower Mullica ending at Crowley's Landing. A couple questions: 1) Where would you put-in for a 3-4 hour paddle, somewhere between Constable Bridge and Old Camp Ground? Get you get a Grand Cherokee in there without getting stuck? 2) From...

    Deer fight?

Trying to determine what the deer behavior was that awoke me at 2am this morning. I heard a loud cracking & hoofing sound from my 2nd floor bedroom window - beautiful night with plenty of moonlight and dead quiet until the ruckus. There in my front yard were two big bucks doing the wild...

    MTN Biking in Wharton

Does anybody have recommendations for long stretches of firm (less sandy) trails suitable for novice mountain biking in Wharton? I'm looking to come up with a couple of 15-20 miles loops, maybe around one on the west side of Rt 206 and one on the east. I've managed to find some trials near...

    Wharton Boundary

Does anyone know the latest boundary of Wharton (State Forest) in the area between Jackson/Medford Rd and Hopewell Rd? I thought I noticed a new sign off Hopewell Rd just south of Stone Mtn (Little Mill CC) that looked like a State Forest Boundary sign. If thats Wharton, does it link to the...

    Canoeing tomorrow

Does anyone know if the water level on the Batsto will be good for a first time trip down from QB to Batsto? Wanted to do Mullica from Old Camp to 542, but likely too long for the first-timer crew. Early morning weather looks good enough. Should I expect a holiday crowd? ed

    Snake Traps?

I was riding my mountain bike this morning thru/near the western part of Wharton and came upon 2 traps (one on either side of a sand road) with about 50 yards of plastic fence seemingly funneling whatever the traps were intended for into/towards the traps. Does anybody know if this could be a...

    16' Old Town Canoe

Thinking of buying a used canoe, first canoe for me. Is the Old Town 16' well matched to pines (batsto, mullica, etc.)? Is 16' the length I would want (or shorter). Howabout weight? Appreciate any insights. thks, ed

    White Deer

Spotted a white, Yak-like deer on my way into work today at around 7:00am behind Tauton Lake. I must have seen thousands of deer in the last 5 years, but never one like this one. At first I thought it had just rolled in the snow, but as I got closer I could see the fur was heavy & longer...

    Taunton Mansion

I drive past this place all the time and wonder who owns it and if it's protected (it certainly looks unique and of historical value). Does anyone live there who can comment on it's condition inside? It looks like small apartments or rooms - always many cars outside. Got a great view of the...

    Ruins on Home Bog

Went out to find evidence of the 3 buildings indicated on an old map of Jobstown Bogs. Only found signs of 1 building and some strange Catus-like plants. Also found a car in the middle of nowhere, must have been dropped from a plane because there is no way it could have been driven to...

    Old Bog Jeep'n

There is a nice, almost pristene section of the Old Jobstown Bogs near my place (as ID'd by Tee Gate a while back). This particular section is nearly dry within one of the old bogs and has many mature cedars (some about 60" in circ.). I always thought of this area as a hike-to spot, never...

Converting a Bog to a "lake"

Looking at the satellite photos, it may be possible to create more lakes in Marlton, Medford, Shamong and other areas with all the old bogs around. Not that it would be economically feasible, potilically possible ....but maybe a good idea environmentally(or maybe not ?) ... but what's involved...

    Turtle ID

Came upon this guy out in the open, about 50' from the nearest water. Seemed to be digging with rear legs, could it have been a female getting ready to lay eggs? (if so, risky spot) Big, about 12-14" long. Anybody know what kind of turtle and approximate age? thks.

    Kayak Suggestions?

Just starting to look into maybe buying a kayak. Looking for something to take me down the Mullica, Batsto, etc. - mostly short trips. Something easy to carry/light, yet tough. Does anybody have experience with inflatables in the Pines? How much should one expect to spend? Ocean kayaks...
