DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Hey all, here is an image that overlays the 2015 and 2024 map. As you have noted, they are essentially the same thing. So the 1,600 surveys were considered, but had no effect on the new result? Is that what we are expected to believe?

    New Closure On Martha Road

Agreed. To me this is the DEP doing the right thing: protect the resource without preventing access to the resource.

What new things would you like to see here?

Besides that, additional articles might a good add. Would happy to volunteer my services if we came some up with some topics.

What new things would you like to see here?

This is probably waaay beyond the scope of what you are asking, maybe this could be for the 2026 update :) I’ve been meaning to mention this for years, but you know, life. There is sooo much content buried in this forum on every conceivable PB topic. It would be interesting to point AI at the...

Disappearance and Murder in Hampton Park - 1907

I've been working on the history of Hampton Furnace and Hampton Park, chipping away it over the last couple years. Eventually I'l finish it, but in the meantime, I thought I would post some interesting things I've found along the way. Many may have heard of the robbery near Hampton in 1916, in...

    Hampton upper forge?

    That makes sense.

    Hampton upper forge?

Nice work! I had wondered if the feeder canal was of the iron era or the cranberry era. It seemed to be a feat of civil engineering larger than some of the other nearby manmade features, similar scale to the canal that was used during the cranberry era to bypass the furnace pond on the Batsto.

A little late to the New Years party, but just want to add my thanks for all that you do, Boyd. It is awesome!!

    Hampton upper forge?

Yes, the straight line created by the roadbed/dam. “Flat spot” is probably a poor descriptor :), but basically it was a feature that I could verify on a map that was georeferenced. I did look around for slag, but couldn’t find any easily. (There would probably be a lot less of it than is...

    Hampton upper forge?

Kind of in reverse. I looked at the 1849 map and noted the flat spot (I.e. the straight line created by the dam/roadbed) and noted the structure was on the western end. Then I went to the aerials and dropped a pin at the western end of the flat spot and went to that spot using my GPS. I...

    Hampton upper forge?

I thought I would come back and add a little more to this since I've done a little more exploration. This is surely a little speculative, but a fun exercise that seems to check out. If you go back to the 1849 map by J.W. Otley and R. Whiteford, you can note a few things: First, there is this...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

You picked out the most ironic part of this situation. I know for a fact AT LEAST 10 residents contacted them asking to pass a resolution against the State’s plans. My question then was: did 11 or more residents ask them to pass a resolution in support of the State’s plan? If not, then...

    Hampton upper forge?

Thanks, Jerseyman! Yes! This is another great one to add to my list! I have been searching for the digitized version of this ad! It is from the National Gazette and Literary Register in 1825 I believe, right? How did you find it? It didn't seem that any nearby libraries had it. Since we...

    Hampton upper forge?

I came across this thread in my Hampton research and thought I would add some of what I was writing about because it provides some insight into this question. The location of the original forge is somewhat in question, but there are several maps and references that help give us clues as to...

    Hiking socks

I’m also a big fan of Darn Tough wool socks. Over the years they have become the only socks I wear. One pair of Darn Toughs will outlast 10 pairs of cotton socks. They have varying lengths and thickness but I tend to like the crew length. Darn Tough (Style #1466) Men's Merino Wool Hiker...

No sooner than posting this, I figured it out. Their page is wrong. The actual URL is: http://ccarchive.co.burlington.nj.us/NewViewer.aspx I’ll leave my post here in case anyone else gets tripped up on this in the future. I’ll delete it if they fix their page.
