    Downer & Willimstown Branch

That is the same line. The trail of marbles went down to Winslow then back up to Berlin to the Owens Corning plant, for fiberglass, on the west side of Rt. 73. Freight service stopped when Amtrak / NJ Transit took the line over in the late 80's. Roy

One mother of an ore pond and something else?

Interesting report. Maybe the slag came from Hampton Furnace and used for road construction as Mark mentioned? Roy

It looks like they have a survival class but what gets me is they say you learn how to make a shelter and a few lines later they say camping or a hotel is available. Is Bear Grylls teaching this:cry:? For that money I’d like to live survival 24/7. Roy...

    Where was Davis Grove?

Hello Everyone, When I first saw this thread a couple of weeks ago I asked my mother if she knew anything about it. She said she didn’t know the history of the place but added they had cheap prices and a lot of dirt in the tank :jeffd:. One thing I noticed about the picture is it looks...

    A little detective work

You’re correct; they should be placed where the right-of-way changes direction such as the beginning and ending of curves.

    A little detective work

That sounds like a right-of-way monument. That dimple or punch mark in the metal is most likely the point they were marking. Sometimes they punch an X to make it stand out. Roy

"Posted" sign along Quaker Bridge Road

I’ll have to walk down the trail next time I’m in the area. No more bush whacking for me until the next frost :(.

"Posted" sign along Quaker Bridge Road

Hello Everyone, I was driving down Quaker Bridge Road this evening and notices some ribbon hanging from a tree. Then I happen to notice a sign back in the woods 50 to 100 feet with big red lettering. I was surprised to see it said Posted:siren:. Maybe it’s a remaining lot from the...

    Carranza Road

I believe they were just cutting the small pine trees back so cars don't get pinstriped. They did the same thing from Friendship to Hawkins Bridge a year or so ago. Of course if they would cut the grass / weeds once a year, they wouldn't have to make such a mess. Roy

    Help needed to identify snake

Hello All, Thanks for the replies. I was thinking Pine snakes had larger diamonds that run together, I had a picture but can’t find it. Don’t worry Guy, I wasn’t going to give any details for the reasons watchingtrainsgoby mentioned. Roy

    Goshen in Camden or Burlington?

I thought that there may have been two dams at different times for the same mill. Guy’s first picture may be of the first dam (which shows up on some of the older maps as a pond). There appears to be a second dam at the up stream end of the canal or race that is visible during low water. Maybe...

    Cow Tunnels Under Route 70

Hello, My friends and I in the 70’s & early 80’s used the one that was extended to get to the other side of the highway. There was a 12 inch or so water main in the tunnel that we walked on sometimes so our feet wouldn’t get wet. I believe it was removed when they extended the tunnel...
