I selected an 80's music station to listen to for awhile. I don't want to offend any of you young guys who lived through that era of music, but God was it awful. Worse than I remembered it. Beastie Boys, Devo, Pat Benatar.

Yech!

The 80's were terrible for music! I was a teenager and I just wanted to listen to 70's stuff. Things got better in the 90's. Just an opinion of course, and we are really just only talking about rock and pop stuff.

Actually, I would single out other bands (than what Bob listed) as being the worst representations of the 80's. A lot of girls like 80's songs. I used to have to play them in cover bands I've been in.

i could tolerate pat benatar, but the best part of her act in my opinion was her husband neil gerardo, who i think was darn good on the guitar which is my favorite instrument to listen to anytime, the 60s when i was a teenager, was the favorite time for me,especially when the british invasion started, the 70s being a close second.

Having grown up in the 80's for a little bit of my life I hated the music then. Now that I'm a little older I have developed a appreciation for the music from the 80's. Girls love 80's songs at the bar like jeff stated, especially "pour some sugar on me". I'm a big journey fan and some of the hair bands just because the songs remind me of college cover bands at bars....good nights. For me and my generation the best music is from around the grunge era and before, pearl jam, alice in chains(my fav), soundgarden, nirvana, metalica, pantera. All the music out now is absolutely horrible.

Hey! I like Pat Benatar. Giraldo is really good, but the drummer at the time (Myron Grombacher) was incrediable. That guy was frickin' ridiculous.

I was young in the '80s (wasn't born til '81), but for me the '80s is The Hooters (yea, crappy '80s synth, but I love them anyway), The Dead Milkmen, Dead Kennedys, The Specials, middle era Ramones, Operation Ivy, etc. 'course, for the most part those bands were a backlash on most '80s music...

I love '50s and '60s music, the '70s kill me, and nearly killed rock n roll. Most of the bands I can only take in very small doses, one song by Boston is good, two is alright, three makes me break the radio. There is some '70s that I do like, (few things better in this world than early Springsteen) but most of it drives me nuts.

There is some good music now, you just have to look a little harder for it. Two of my favorite bands right now are The Raveonettes and the Von Bondies, both of whom started in the last five years. Another is Red Elvises, who have been around fifteen years or so, but who are making great music still.

I am always a little behind, but when I latch onto someone I like, I hold on tight, even if the music was developed many years ago. Right now, its World Party, Widespread Panic, Leanord Cohen, and some not so old Steely Dan and Van Morrison.

Hey, I love the 80s music!:bs:

Maybe because I grew up with it? Anyway I loved the new wave and electronic sound of the 80s. Pat Benetar, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, etc!
Here's a list of my top 10 fav 80s songs:
Pat Benetar - Love Is A Battlefield
Erasure - Chains of Love
Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin
Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love
Pretty Poison - Catch Me I'm Falling
Whitesnake - Is This Love
George Michael - Faith
Genesis - Land of Confusion
The Cars - Drive
Billy Idol - Eyes Without a Face

There's many, many more songs I could list here but I dont want to bore everybody.:words:
Complain what you want about the 80s, but they didn't have that godawful gangsta rap back then. The music was based on rock and dance/club/electronic, and really had a mass appeal the music today just doesn't have. With that said, there are some great songs out there though you don't hear them on the radio much. Here's a few.
The Killers - All The Things I've Done
Death Cab Killed Cutie - Soul Meets Body
Hellogoodbye - Here In Your Arms
Gnarls Barley - Crazy
DHT - I Go Crazy (an excellent modern sounding remake of the Paul Davis classic)

love is a battlefield was my second favorite from pat,my first was hell is for children, right on with genesis, whitesnake.getting back to guitarists, eric clapton was the man,his agent said to watch out for this guitarist from america,it was none other than jimi hendrix.

Oh, the 70's weren't all that bad. It just depended on who you were listening to.
Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" was released in the early 70's. I still think it is the greatest album ever produced.
There was Jackson Browne, The Band, The Allman Brothers........lot of good stuff in the 70's.

I like a lot of 80's, mostly "hair metal". Probably because that's what my mom brought me up on. Never realized it until lately, but I'm alright with some of the new wave stuff as well.

After Led Zeppelin, I mean, what would be the point of another rock band. Jeff

You definitely have made a point there Jeff. In fact, I never really liked any heavy metal band, but always loved Led Zeppelin, and in a poll they were voted best heavy metal band of all time. They were heavy metal before the name was coined.

I was very surprised to not see Led Zeppelin 1 or at the very least Led Zeppelin 2 on the list.
