All,
We went again to check on the Lady Slippers, and it seems like some of the plants are never going to mature. While looking them over a Tiger Beetle suddenly appeared next to me. They are really shy.
From there we headed over to look at a sedge Bob had asked me to check on, and while there we noticed that the Turkey Beard is starting to flower.
Then to meet up with Bob and Buddy for a day of plant searching and adventure. At our first stop deep in a cedar swamp, we were surprised to find Arethusa in full bloom and we counted almost 50 of them. A wonderful find this early Bob would say. I am still learning how to take plant photo’s for sure.
Taking a break at the waterfall. A really nice place!
A five star flower. I still have not figured out why some of the photo’s just don’t look clear. In any event, you can see that the center portion is what attracts the various other bugs to it, and when they get there they touch the outer portion and send the pollen on it's way. I guess you can see that I know all of the technical terms
Buddy ate one of them, and a ton of grass, so don’t click on this link if you would prefer not to see the result of that.

Bob, the name you gave me for this seems to be non existent.
Jessica discovered hundreds of tadpoles in a puddle on a road. There was a frog there that kept going back in the puddle when we would leave.
Next, off to Webb’s Mill Bog. It is flooded as you have been reading on this site.
So we headed on down to check out the beaver dam, and I parked my car in the small parking area where the dumpster was for the clean-up. As we were ready to walk to the dam Bob spotted this coming out from under my car. A close call! Dragon would be pissed at me! And when we were leaving I looked under my car for the turtle and he was under my tire hiding. Another close call for sure!
The beaver dam causing all the problems.
I climbed into the dam and took this at water lever.
All of a sudden the dam broke loose! How could that happen!
Bob was shocked! Give this video time to load. Quicktime needed.

Jeff......what plant is this??? I bet you have never looked for this one before
Then off to Black’s Bridge. You may remember Ben posting and saying it is flooded on one side and not the other. Sure enough, Ben knows his beaver
They have completely encased the bottom of the bridge with sticks and mud cutting off the flow of water under that small span.
So here is one side, and the next photo is the other. They are amazing creatures!
Who is that pulling out the sticks and mud returning the flow to a thunderous roar?
After an adventurous day we had to leave, and I decided to back up across the bridge past Bob’s vehicle. When one drives a little too fast in reverse, one pays the price.
Not to worry, help was quick to respond!
And finally, turn up your volume and enjoy a short visit to one of the nicest locations in the pines I have been in for a while. Clean water, great company, wonderful sounds, and a dog that eats grass and throws up next to Jessica, who herself almost threw up. A wonderful day for sure!
