which is probably a good thing as it has been neglected, but in my opinion, it would make more of an authentic educational experience to the school kids and visitors if it were maintained as it existed in its prime; electric for emergencies, period lighting, heating and open window air conditioning.

Well, the tavern is already wired for electric, since it was a private residence up until fairly recently. I think they can probably do HVAC fairly unobtrusively. Having the inside climate controlled will preserve the building really well. Look at the Atsion mansion - it's falling apart again, after that huge expensive restoration job, because it's not climate controlled.
