Celebrity Trapshooter

All,

I was contacted by an individual trying to find information on this old photo. His family lived for generations in Weymouth and Mays Landing. He remembers a large building in the woods NW of the Weymouth mill and was wondering if the building in the photo is one and the same. He believes the gentleman in the photo was a celebrity trapshooter. Can anyone identify this building or the people in it?

The photos I have attached are two images of the Colwell Mansion at Weymouth. One is from the Hamilton Twp. historic site and the other is from Robert Johnson's book on the history of Weymouth. Trapshooting from the mid 1800s to the 1940s was a hot sport nationally. Now it appears to be more of a regional interest. I have included a link to a site that covers the history and personalities involved in the sport. If you check into "inductees", you can look for names/states of origin/years. Maybe this will help the person who is inquiring. My husband's grandmother was active in the sport during the 30s and 40s. The family has some fun photos of her all decked out like Annie Oakley....

That's the size and scale of the building I vaguely remember, although it was deteriorating pretty badly even when I was a kid. If it is at Weymouth, it makes some kind of sense: My great grandfather Stille Watson was superintendent at the paper plant until Jan. 1 1880, and his brothers and sons were active socially in both Weymouth and Mays Landing. My great grandfather Thorpe supplied at least Walkers Forge with wood for fuel through the 1880s. Thanks for the help, as time unfolds perhaps we can pin down dates and people. :-P

Folks:

After a careful examination of the photograph, I can assure you that the building in the background is not the Colwell Mansion at Weymouth. The building in the photograph is reminiscent of the Sora Club along the Cohansey outside of Bridgeton, but even that does not match exactly. I am still mulling over the building and will see if I can identify it. Meanwhile. the gentleman with the goatee looks very familiar to me and I am checking some sources here to ascertain if I can positively identify him.
