Jersey has the best food. We used to go to the brooklawn diner at 3am and they would make anything you wanted. You can't get that in VA.
i was only there a couple of times but when did the new gretna house burn down?

The one that got my attention on that list was Oyster Creek. That was my favorite place to go out to eat with my family when I was a kid. Going by boat was always a bonus too. Have'nt been there in years there were always tons of cats all over the place.

Jersey is the best for diners.

For cuisine, though, nothing beats New York City. Anything you could want, open late.

As much as I like the Pic or the Woodshed, I'll take Dukes on 19th and Park any day of the week. Hell, no places around here even serve PBR.

new york city hands down is the cuisine capital, hungry late,no problem,in south jersey area and philly, besides the diners, the two places to eat that are open 24 hrs to eat are pat's and geno's steaks at the italian market in south philly.

The Green Bank Inn - rt 542 Green Bank

Lots of atmosphere and good beer, poor food but OK for after a hike. Wooden floor, old mahogony bar and country bands. NO yuppies, very down to earth.

And if you are a smoker, for some reason the law does not apply there.

We stop in there once in a while and I get a soda. It burns going down :D

I am with you Ed. That's my kind of place.
The kind of place where you wipe your feet on the way out.
I think the 206 Pic kind of lost its piney edginess a few years back.
In the mid to late 70's Medford Lakes and Shamong hadn't been spoiled with the McMansion developments yet and the Pic was very woodsy.
Deer week was a real hoot complete with dancin' girls. Don't ask me how I know.
Now, on a Saturday night the dinner crowd seems a little too refined for the Pic I remember.
I think they wander in from the McMansions to rough it a little and then scurry back to their enclaves.
Other than that, we like Allen's Clam Bar on 9 in New Gretna. It's BYO and you can buy beer across the street. Fried clams are fried clams.
They aren't clamstrips like old Howard Johnsons, they are an entire Cherrystone clam battered and deep fried. Hey now!

Agreed on the Pic. Food still good
Atmosphere goin' Yuppie.
Do any of Ya'll remember the German Shepherd on the side roof of Greenbank. My Aunt used to bartend there years back. Hard place indeed ! Mixed crowd, but mostly hardcases.
The shirts from the place depicted the dog but I always used to love driving by on the way to the shore and driving up to have the dog giving you grief from the second story rooftop. Pines Trivia. Anyone here know it's name?

I remeber the dog well, I just can't remember the name. I used to stop in quite a bit on my street legal enduro in the late 70's through mid 80's.
I am thinking something very typical like Duke or Prince but I just can't recall.

The Pic is trying to be something it is not. Scott, remember the goat? We were there for dinner just this last Friday. The waitress always looks supprised when we order wings instead of the lemongrass steak. I miss walking through the stall to get into the men's room.

Yes, the dog at the Green Bank Inn. My brother inlaw has a t-shirt with a picture of the dog on the roof of the inn.

I remember the goat.
I also remeber the clock behind the bar that ran backwards (whacky time) and the sign listing the charges for phone call lying:
Just Left $1.00
Not here $2.00
Haven't seen him. $3.00
(Just guessing at the prices.
I remember seeing that clock not too long ago but it wasn't running.
It may have been taken down.

You can still buy one! http://www.wonderfullywacky.com/backwardsclock.htm

Pic

I do not recall the goat but do recall different times at the pic.
There was a time when the "Smokers" wings were just this side of deadly.
The proprietor was a customer of mine back then and shared with us guys some jars of the "secret" ingredient that heated up the sauce.
Bad stuff indeed, from an unbelievable source. they do not use it anymore.

I recall some years ago my dad and a closeby neighbor came home with a cow in the back of the truck that I believe was taken in trade for a bar tab.
Those were the days. don't get that anyomore.
Who would take a cow home in the most current version of Hummer, Escalade, Navigator? My how times have changed from rusty Fords & Chevys
parked outside.

The dog @ Greenbank, C'mon... anymore takers? I know we got a couple new guys from out that way. It's really not a tough answer in the end.

I am pleased to inform you that I was part of that stupid drunk trick.
It was me, your dad, Tommy, Kerry and Joe Sharp. We had snoot full before we even got there.
Me and Tommy were walkng in to the bar and I saw the cow tethered in the back of a guy's pickup. It was a young Jersey calf.
When we got inside, after a few cold ones, Tommy asked whose cow it was. A crusty guy spoke up and said he just got it at Harkers. Tommy offered to buy it but the guy wasn't interested at first.
After a few more cold ones Tommy offered the guy $50.00 bucks and said he wanted it as a pet for his granddaughter (Vicky).
The guy relented and took the money.
We went outside and transferred the cow to Joe's old blue Dodge pickup and tied her off.
After yet a few more cold ones, we headed for home with Tommy riding shotgun with the cow.
When we got to Tommy's the best part was yet to come.
We walked the cow right into the house and into his living room where his wife and Vicky were watching TV.
Tommy said "Look what Pop Pop got for you!"
His wife wanted to kill us all and his granddaughter went nuts over the cow.
Luckily the cow didn't have any accidents and we eventually walked her out to the barn.
His granddaughter tried to care for it for a while but it didn't work out too well wit the horses and eventually Tommy gave it to Jim Frame and he put it out to pasture at his place.
One of my fondest Pic memories and that was only about 10 years ago.

You know, As I wasn't present for that one I couldn't remember if You and Kerry were present. I knew Joe was as it was his truck.
And yes, I recall Stell being pissed. I went over the next morning thinking it was to be a large cow and saw it was just a little calf.
And yes, I thought on it and as I was in my house less than a year that puts it right at the Ten year mark.
TOO Funny!
