Firefox vs Google Chrome

I need input.Me and my wife are fed up with IE 8 it is shutting down on many different sites and is slow as hell on others.I want a browser thats fast,easy to use and is not throwing a bunch of advertisement crap in my face all the time.I've been reading reviews but one will claim firefox is faster then next says chrome is faster.They claim firefox has more plug ins but chrome uses less memory?????.I just want one that is fast,dependable and don't swamp me with junk i have no intention of buying.I do not respond well to the American advertisement practices.If I want what you have I will find it because what i look for I usually find.If i don't find it it is because I'm not looking for it and hence don't want it to begin with.Hence I have satellite radio

Hey Al, Myself I use Firefox Seems to work ok.One good thing is Chrome and Firefox are both free. But just get the browsers don't get all that other stuff they try to sneak in. Try them both its free and just uninstall the one you don't like.Firefox has alot of different addons you can play with. But my choice would be Firefox.

I use IE8 and have no issues, running XP on a 7 year old Dell XPS 400 with 3gig of memory. Not sure what you mean by advertisements; I get none except for the ones indiviual web sites put up, but that is not due to IE8. Have you done virus, registry and spyware scans?

I had FF for a while and then it got updated and I had nothing but problems with it. At that time, I swiched to Google Chrome and love it. I am, however back on IE8 since I got the new computer and it seems to be working fine. But if you really want to try something new...try Chrome!

I have been using Firefox for the past few years and have found very few problems. I use Safari on my Mac, which also seems fine (although I also have firefox on the Mac for the few sites that Safari doesn't seem to like).

If you have a netbook, you might look at Chrome. It seems to make better use of a low resolution (1024x600) screen, with less space wasted on toolbars and other stuff.

I had IE9 installed, but went back to IE8 since it was more stable and quicker from my standpoint. Not sure why you'd be having the issues you are describing. Definately not sure of that advertising that you're talking about. Are you sure that's not from the sites your visiting, as opposed to the browser itself?

I've heard good things about IE9, but if I had to choose between Chrome and Firefox as my primary browser, I'd choose Chrome.

I'm smugly posting using Safari on a Mac, though.

Chrome OS users are at risk

That article is about the Chrome operating system, and not just the browser. Google is pushing this as a cloud-based alternative to traditional operating systems. Seems like a really bad idea all around, since these stripped down computers are completely dependent on Google's servers and are basically useless when not connected to the internet.

Thanks for all the input folks and NASCAR I was speaking of pop ups I guess and would like a browser with a better pop up blocker then IE has,many adds get through my blocker.Advertisements annoy me,they don't convince me I want what I minute ago I never heard of.

I have firefox on two of the computers and IE 8 on the third. I prefer the Firefox. I have never used chrome so i personally can't speak for it. If FF ever gives me trouble I will go to chrome.

Hrm, I've not seen a popup in a long time. I thought most browsers just did that well now. One of the other nice things about Safari/Chrome/Firefox is the Adblock plugin. Looks like someone also makes it for IE as well. It's really nice to be able to browse Facebook, Youtube, CNN, whatnot and not see all of the flash ads and animations and stuff.

I use all three major ones daily, and I'd say IE9 is actually a little ahead in the speed and stability race right now. Despite this, I still use Chrome for most browsing just because I have been using it for about two years.
