Flower ID

Hawkin, Thanks for the ID. It just popped up in the yard. Right next to the "Japanese Maple". Actually Pancoast is correct, Mom brought some home after her last trip to Japan. The original tree is about 25 feet tall and there are now many sprouts around the yard which I give away to people that like the shape of the leaves.

I am no expert, but it looks like you might have some Japanese Maple growing below that. You might want to double check, lest it be something else...

It looks like a cultivated Columbine flower. It seems larger that the wild ones I'm used to seeing.

I thought so too, but was confused by how large the bloom is, how ornate, and the way it seems to be growing in a sunny spot. (???)

Glo, The flower is approximately the size of a Quarter and when I checked it today it has opened up some more exposing the petals.

So they must be different. Points to you, Hawkin! I've never seen a wild one open up like that. I wonder where your C.C. came from? It certainly is pretty.
