I just found this website not sure if anyone has discussed it on here before or if I should even mention other websites. I just thought the pictures were cool. Good pictures of Atsion. Thought I would pass it along. Maybe this guy is a member here, I don't know.

They are nice photo's. I suspect some of them were from the very early 70's since the pumping station looks in slightly better shape. Then again the one photo shows the bicentennial plate for 1976.

And mine. I have a better one somewhere.

He has a nice one of the "modern concrete contrivance" as Beck called it at Hampton Furnace.

As Jessica noticed ... people were much thinner back then. No hydroginated food like today.

Guy,
How is it you never tripped over this fellow in your travels?
I will be showing these to my Uncle in Sweetwater to see if he knows any of the folks shown.
Thanks Trailhead for the link, very cool.

Hey! My brother had one of those plates (bicentennial) on his Challenger back in '76-'77. "Crossroads of the Revolution" it's still hanging in my dad's garage!

Guy, one of those pics (the camping photo) has "May '78" in the corner. Also, the guy's wearing a "Violet Packing" t-shirt. That's in Williamstown, home of "Dom Peppino Pizza Sauce" maybe someone knows him?

All in all, they were really cool! and, it gave me a chance to re-visit the "then & now" gallery, which is always a treat!

I did not notice the date. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Yea ... I was out there at that time, but I don't think we every met. I was pretty anti-social so I have only a recollection of just a few individuals that I had contact with. There was one group of individuals I hooked up with that may have been from the Williamstown area. I met him along with a friend of mine, and we hung out one evening. He had a brother who had been killed in Vietnam and I believe his name or his brothers was Brad. I remember that because that is my brothers name. It got late, they got drunk, and a fight started that ended by one of them swinging and missing and hitting my friends gas cap cover and denting it. We left and never saw them again.

I just noticed the photo of my Land Cruiser is mirrored improperly. Notice the "Toyota" on the front :)

Guy,
That landcruiser looks so cherry. I thing they were the best vehicles ever made. Stock, they would go through anything.

It was not then way when I traded it in for a new one. I had the head rebuilt twice because of the poor design of the exhaust ports, and from all the wear a tear from the pines it rusted out. The last day I had it the wheel bearing started seizing up so I was happy to get a new one. And that one suffered the same fait basically. I was hard on them.

I've always said that there's no better way to shorten the life of a perfectly good vehicle. All of my Jeep CJ's have gone thru major rust, sand damage, etc.

And yet the Ford Focus keeps on ticking. :)

Well, fortunately I do my own repairs and have had quite a few to do. I had to replace both front wheel bearings which would have been impossible for me if I did not work where I do. I also had to replace one rear wheel bearing, multiple front end parts, all the hubcaps, and multiple plastic protectors under the car. Something is whining that I have not figured out what it is, and the transmission is slow going into gear, even though that is much better since Jessica and I changed the fluid and filter.

If I was not able to do my own repairs I would have had hefty maintenance costs.

I hear ya! That's why I prefer my old CJ's everything is servicable for a very minimal amount of money. Now, if I was to perform the same service on my Cherokee, with it's sealed hubs, electronics, etc. Well, things would get a little more expensive. (But still be able to be serviced by me)

If I had the garage I dream of, I'd invite y'all over for "Pines Exploration Vehicle service day"

Although I should buy a truck, I use my accord with 214XXX miles on it and it still runs great with the original engine and transmission. I put that thing through hell and it asks for more lol. The only thing that has ever went bad that I replaced was the outter cv joints on both axles, and the radiator. That car dosent owe me anything.

Bah, I only dream of the ease of maintenance of a Cherokee. I have a Grand Cherokee. They called it Grand because that describes the price of the average repair.

But, those heated seats are so nice...

Old Truck/Modern conveniences

Yes they are.....My wife drives an '89 Dodge Ramcharger. Her commute to work is only 6 miles & she complained that it doesn't get warm inside in that short distance. I installed seat-heaters in her seats. It was about $80/unit (I installed them in the drivers & passengers seat) She loves them!

Now, when else would you find a big old truck like that with heated seats!

Oh, yeah, when the Grand Cherokee came out, I called them "30 Grand Cherokees"!

My last Jeep (89 Cherokee) had all sorts of problems with age, but the straight-6 engine never needed anything (always had a very slow gasket leak) and it always ran well. I usually bragged about the reliability of the Jeep engine.. So I bought another one a few years ago (year 2000 make, straight-6 again) and the cylinder head cracked and the gasket head failed. I don't think I will buy another Jeep after this one because of this. The other problem with Jeeps is that they are like Pac-Man on gas and I think we are going to see continued gas increases. I'm trying to come up with something that will be somewhat fuel efficient and also have decent 4-wheel drive.
