Frustration

With all due respect to the owner and administrators and certain other individuals that post on this site I am frustrated beyond belief. I originally joined this site to meet and talk to like minded people who enjoy the Pine Barrens for what it is. Instead, what I see are a few individuals that are so pompous and arrogant that they choose to lie in the weeds and attack the people that they feel have less knowledge than they do, not to mention certain members believe they “own” the pines when in reality it is there for everyone to enjoy. I have read several of these instances such as the whole geocaching debate where you not only attacked a new member but one that has been around for a while and recently I have had this happen to me. Apparently, some of you have a hard time determining other people’s humor and take it as a slight and go on the attack quoting spelling errors on the other party because, as another member posted, you are weak and have no argument and lack the interpersonal skills it takes to open and maintain new relationships with people that are not in your so called inner circle. So, that being said, I will ask that Mr. Ruset eliminate me from this site and also inform him that is most likely why there are so many “lurkers” and less members. Some of you will most likely not care about losing a member, just keep in mind, the state is forever closing areas like the pines and there is strength in numbers. I hope all of you have a great life and continue to enjoy the pines in your own way as I will do.

lighten up, dude :(

i'm not trying to be arrogant or anything, but you seem a little unfamiliar with message board discourse. i've posted and lurked on many message boards for various topics and in my experience what we see here is pretty typical for any message board about any subject. yes, people make jokes and disagree, but that's part of being a community and really, if there weren't differences in opinion, what would there be to discuss? everybody is prone to occasional immaturity and cheap shots and whatnot, but it's usually not meant to be personal. and some message boards are MUCH worse than this one when it comes to the maturity level of the users. sometimes the anonymity of the internet is too much for some people to handle and they do and say things on here that they wouldn't in a face-to-face conversation, so if you are overly sensitive about that type of thing, maybe you do need to find another venue for discussion.

Instead, what I see are a few individuals that are so pompous and arrogant that they choose to lie in the weeds and attack the people that they feel have less knowledge than they do, not to mention certain members believe they “own” the pines when in reality it is there for everyone to enjoy.

if that's all you see on this site, you're overlooking a wealth of great discussion and information and focusing on the negative spin that you seem to have put on just one or two of its hundreds of threads. once again, i know you're probably going to look at this as a personal attack on you, but i'm merely suggesting that based on what you've said you seem to have unrealistic expectations for this medium of discussion.

Although his remarks are obviously heated by some recent disagreement and are somewhat over-the-top, I have also recognized a snobbish aspect to many of the members here at times, and most confusing, a heavy Republican-type mentality sometimes which reeks of ignorance...to me at least. I also have been a devoted member of this site for some time now and realize that there is still a central love for what we are mainly interested here. The site is an essential source regardless of the worts from these unavoidable conflicts.

Broke Jeep,

Surely you are very sensitive if you feel that you or anyone was attacked. If someone questions a statement or disagrees with a statement it is not an attack. It is a discussion. If someone says "no way could someone have gotten there from Ancora" (or whatever), well that is their opinion, not an attack. No one was attacked in the geocache discussion. Opinions were given. Like WAMBA said, if we can't have different opinions, what's the point?
It takes a tough skin to get through this life. Toughen up a bit. Roll with the punches.
This is my opinion and suggestion, not an attack.

Heyyyy Joe, where you going with that gun in yo hand?

I still like Stu of Doom. Seems to be a cool dude. So what if we disagreed a bit. You do have a thin skin Joe. Here is what I get from your post:

a.) You see pompous arrogant people who go on the attack. (Who dat?)

b.) You see people who think they own the pines. (King of the pines and Pope of the pines). They also own England and the Vatican.

c.) You see people who have a hard time appreciating humor (That'd be you. You act like a board moderator.)

d.) You see people who attack others for thier spelling errors. (c'mon Stu, fess up)

e.) You see weak people who have a lack of interpersonal skills. (uh, Brown, the former FEMA director?).

I see them now. C'mon back Joe, we'll round them up and shoot them, then hang and stab them.

I dig ya. I just got a bit carried away near the end. Plus this face :v: is just funny.
By the way, all you whiners, I wasn't pointing out the misspelling to be a jerk; I am very anal about spelling, and 'mortar' is commonly messed up. Steve's "artical" was bothering me too, but knowing him that was probably intentional (I hope). Everyone thought it was a cheapshot, and if it was, I'm sorry you aren't an English nazi like I am.
I think I carried my view pretty well, by the way.

I do agree that sometimes some people sound a bit pompous on here, but I doubt they realize it. Ultimately we all just want to keep these places around as long as we can; we just see different ways of accomplishing that and have different views of what the source of the problem is/can be.

And Joe, don't ever call me a Republican.

They're just as useless as Democrats.

So what you're saying is that Guy and myself have no sense of humor?

Anyway, I haven't read all of the threads recently, and the one that I did read (the Geocaching one) I kept my mouth shut because I know that me posting my opinion won't help things. Everyone is entitled to their opinion - no matter how wrong you may think it is - and nobody should be made to feel afraid to speak their mind, so long as it's in a constructive helpful way that actually encourages discussion or thought.

Nobody is getting deleted. But everyone needs to take a step back and calm down. We're all here because we love the Pine Barrens. I think that - for the most part - the community that we've built here is the best when it comes to Pine Barrens folk, and honesly is one of the best I have seen on a message forum. Joe, give it another chance, get to know some people, maybe come out with us on a hike or trip and you'll probably feel the same way.

And please nobody ever call me Mr. Ruset again. Ugh that makes me feel SO freaking old.
