Google Earth

PS. The maps are 2005. I could clearly see my van in my yard.
This will be an awesome tool to help with exploring!!!

I have VirtualPC so I can use it on my Mac....but it is very slow.

You should try the Pro version which is a 7 day free trial and see how that is.

I was shown google earth the other day, simply amazing! you could see 2 people in my in laws pool and one person walking up the driveway.

This has to be the best current aerial photography freeware ever. It is amazing how it lets you freely scan and even adjust the angle of attack when viewing. Thanks for finding it.

It's great in areas like New York where you can have the buildings rendered in 3D, but once you get back out to an area where there is no 3D data, buildings are just flat and look kinda weird when viewed at an angle.

What would really be cool is if there was a way to overlay contour data and see changes in elevation in the photos.

I played around with this on a friend's fast Dell laptop and a DSL connection. Wow, nice job again by Google. They say a Mac version is coming.

Just now I started looking at the Google maps webite and noticed a new feature just appeared. In addition to Satellite and Map views, there is now third option: Hybrid. Click on this button (upper right part of the screen) and it overlays roads on the satellite images. The further you zoom in the more roads. Nice feature, seems to show most of the little pine barrens sand roads if you zoom way in

While playing with the Google Earth software on the PC, I had my Mac right next to it and looked at the maps.google.com version. They are definitely using the same map data, just processing it differently. For example, looking at LaGuardia airport the planes were in the same position.
