Indeed, the speeders featured in the article that Mark posted are remarkably similar to the ones used in the run from Atsion to Sleeper Branch and then back north above the Batsto. We hacked and sawed our way south, but then had a fairly smooth trip running north after “flagging” Route 206 and running our motor cars across the highway under power with no rails. A few of the guys had to place their vehicles back on the rails, but our car jumped right back on at the end of the paving!! It was truly a fabulous trip and at the end of our northern sojourn, we ran into a university student we instantly dubbed “Lizardman” for the herp work he was doing out in the Pines. He camped there all summer and studied the various “herpie” species living in the area surrounding him. We then motored back to Atsion, where we reloaded the speeders back onto their respective trailers and I never had an opportunity for an encore run. A pity, to be sure!
My recollection is that we made the trip in 1992 or 1993.

I saw an abandoned truck lying in the weeds off the old Chester Branch of the Central RR a few months back. I think it's been there for about seventy years. The axles and wheels looked in good shape. Maybe I will haul it out of there and weld a 20-horse Briggs 4-stroke to it.
