Check out the "Dissolve Features" where you can watch one year slowly fade to the next.

I actually toyed with that by accident and thought for a moment the Whiskey was getting to me before I figured out what I'd done.
Just having seen local images that showed things I was never sure of confirmed is a blast.

Very cool indeed. I found old fire towers in their original locations before some were moved. Including the Cedar Bridge tower in the 1950's when it was east of RT 539.
Pete

That was there until 1982 so even the 1970's photo's should show it.

Rye Fields?

Go to the Greenwood Forest and zoom out just enough so you can see all the rye fields (letters) and then work you way back through the years. You can see which rye field is the oldest. Then go to the sand company behind Woodmansie and you can see it get smaller and smaller to 1956 when it was in it's infancy. So many things to see.

I work for HistoricAerials.com and came across your posts regarding our site. When we were working on the Ocean County, NJ images with the "letters" it peaked our curiosity but I was unable to find out what they were and why they were there. Is this the rye fields you mentioned? What is the purpose of these areas that seem to represent letters of the alphabet and why are they placed in different locations in various rotations?

Any insight to the history and purpose would be appreciated. Glad you enjoy our site. Lots of new additions and improvements to come. We always appreciate feedback.

Thank you,

Rye strips for deer hunting..., I never would have guessed. Thanks for the info and thanks for the great comments from both Boyd and Jay. I enjoy backpacking in Arizona and have never backpacked anywhere east of Illinois. After reading many posts, I'll have too plan a trip.

Thanks again.

We are a new site and keep an eye out for links used to find our site and noticed the referrals from your site. As we are a new site, our traffic has been growing steadily with occasional spikes including this past week. Thanks for the traffic!

The gun club on the Chamberlain looks quite large in 1956.

Excellent work JMAXX!
Your site must be a labor of love 'cause that couldn't have been easy.
Ben's site is an example of dedication to an interest and sharing it.
It is good to see others out there that real work went into. Thanks.

I found a structure on my property that I always knew existed, but it's placement and immense size intrigued and surprised me.

This is great!! Ben, check out Mary Ann. A picture is worth a thousand words!!

Regarding the straight, channelized portion of Mount Misery Brook, notice that it was not there in 1930 and that it was there in 1956. The channel was dug out for the cranberry operation and was not associated with the iron days.

Jerseyman would say that careful research comes up with the true facts.

It's also interesting that there doesn't seem to be any houses at Aserdaten -- either where I think the house was or where Ted Gordon thinks it is. But the land on the opposite side of the road looks cleared.

I looked that area over also. I suspect the houses were there before any of these aerial photo's were taken.
