Well you could leave town for a few days. But it might be hard to get back when this is over, so it's a tough decision. Gov. Christie told the Bennies to get out of town already. :D

Seaside Park
My wife and I live a block from the beach in Seaside Park and were contemplating riding it out. But after following the storm's track and its intensity, we are high tailing it out on Friday pm. Have a feeling that the ocean is going to meet the bay with this one. Really weird that we have experienced an earthquake and a major hurricane both within a couple of days.

I believe you are making the right choice. I hope all goes well for you.

If anyone has spare D batteries you can make a killing selling them :D

My wife was at Home Depo today and there was an employee walking around with them all in his arms, passing them out to whoever wanted to buy them. I believe that was the last they had. She was able to buy C batteries at Rite Aid today for her radio.

I was at the Millville Home Depot today and they had plenty of AA and AAA batteries. Shoprite also had them. Psst... if you are still using C and D cells then you really need to replace your old flashlights with modern LED lights. Much, much more light per watt, virtually infinite bulb life, long battery life and they typically use AA and AAA cells. I stopped using my old incandescent flashlights years ago, they seem really dim to me now and they eat batteries. Maybe too late to make the change now, although they had plenty of LED flashlights in the hardware dept at Home Depot this morning.

A couple hours ago they had the director of emergency management for Cape May County on NJ101.5. She said they have just announced a mandatory evacuation for all of Cape May County - not just the shore. Wow.

I have a wind-up radio and 2 flashlights. Great exercise :)

There was a story on the news that cell phones may have problems during the storm.

The entire state is under a state of emergency by Christie. LBI starts mandatory evac tomorrow and all those living along the other shore communities are being asked to evac, nothing mandatory yet. Its being called a 100 year storm, A quote from the NWS big shot in NJ;

"Irene could be very bad, Szatkowski said. If this pans out as the track suggests, this will be the worst storm in anyones lifetime in New Jersey."

I guess I should buy more bread and eggs. :rolleyes:

This could be a storm that overwhelms the electric companies for weeks. If you loose you electricity you may have a long wait to get it back. Imagine ...... no internet....what will we do? :siren:

Well the really bad news is that the ground is saturated. The field report is that wherever you walk the water oozes around your feet. Right now were are getting pounded again. The point is a big wind will pull over everything by it's roots. We kayaked the Wading yestrday and even though the water was not high the banks were dripping. The puddles have not receded on the roads in weeks. A really big wind will blow everything over. Maybe I'll be wrong but it seems like it is NJ's perfect storm, or as Ceech and Chong would say " colitis".
