The Barrens was released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Download on October 9, 2012.
Bousman originally intended to shoot the film in the actual Pine Barrens of New Jersey, but filming eventually took place in the Toronto, Ontario area for budgetary reasons

I saw this movie recently. It's not too bad compared to some of the horror films that have come out in the past 10 years. They do use the name Wharton State Forest as the location in the movie, but as stated above, it's unfortunately not shot in our Pine Barrens.

Some of the shots in that trailer looked more like the "spruce barrens" than the pine barrens.
