We got where we are today by revolting against the government.I think the Second Amendment was put in place in case we ever need to do it again and that if they attempt to change it or abolish it it would be because they have dishonorable intentions and are afraid of our response to those intentions when we discover them.

Is that the reason you think he was one of the greatest and most popular presidents ever--that he received many electoral votes and the media never mentions his name?

No I rank him as a great president by his accomplishments and by the way he turned the country around after inheriting an abysmal economy (remember 19% interest rates) from Jimmy Carter. I judge him for ending the cold war, reducing both taxes and the size of government and strengthening of the military. Others apparently agree with me as recent Gallup Polls rank Ronald Reagan as #2 with Kennedy as #1. Even when he left office his approval rating was 63%, still greater than the current potus.
What reasons do you have for trusting Joe Biden?

I don't remember Kennedy but I do remember Reagan and was old enough to vote for him his second term.I remember him laying down the law to Iran and the next thing we had 400 hostages back. From what I've read Kennedy had brass ones too with the Cuban Missile crises.Reagan also built the military back up,thats another thing I liked about him.

A popular opinion Gallup poll? You mean this one, that totally blew it during the last election?

http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/gallup-blew-its-presidential-polls-but-why--20121118

While I have my own opinions about ranking presidents, I am more realistic in my abilities--I'd not presume to rank a president and announce it as an unassailable fact unless I was a thorough scholar of that president (and other presidents to have a yardstick for comparison).

However, it is a common result among presidential scholars that Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt, and Jefferson are usually rated top notch. Ronal Reagan is not even in the same league.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States

46'r, in my opinion, Barak Obama will exceed Ronald Reagan when Presidential Scholars are polled, but he will be dead last in the popular poll due to racism. People are afraid to say they like President Obama. Nobody, that I can remember, has ever publicly supported Barak Obama but me on this site, and at work, only a very few have. If you can prove me wrong about this, I'd be pleased as punch.

By the way, I trust Joe Biden, because I have never seen him do anything that hurt the middle class, and he is usually on the side of the working man, and not on big corporations. He is also not a war monger.

Lincoln in my opinion was the best of the bunch including Reagan but I was not around then to know anymore then what I've read.If the republican party would give me a chance I'd be glad to vote a black man in like Herman Cain or Allen West. It's not Obama's color but his ideology that puts him on the bottom of my list.Socialist I'm not nor ever will be.

Ban the assault weapon. It is an unecessary instrument of destruction for the homeowner to keep around.

Whoa there plant man !
Is this the same Bob that I know that bought the very evil looking black Remington 870 Express Tactical complete with the optional but legal 2" magazine extension ?

http://www.remington.com/en/products/firearms/tactical/shotguns/model-870-express-tactical.aspx

I don't know Bob , that sure looks like an assault weapon to me.
Well I don't know why anyone would need that kind of firepower for home defense, it's an "instrument of destruction" and just not needed by the homeowner. It should not be legal to possess.
I would think numbnutted Joe Biden will agree with me.

Unfortunately Bob, that gun just plain looks scary and that is good enough for most of the uniformed public and almost all politicians.

I don't think evil looking guns should be legal.. I like walnut and polished blue.
All guns should be walnut and blued so as not to be viewed as assault weapons.

Can I be President now ?

Not that it would have prevented this recent tragedy, but the biggest firearm issue out there that needs to be addressed is in a face-to-face transfer. These should be banned and should have to go through an FFL, so the proper NICS check can be performed. The government should pay for this transfer fee OR cap the fee to $25 or so.

The biggest issue is that the current NICS check does not access your medical records....All you have to do is lie about your mental health...... I know, who would think a nut would lie????

My Nyquil and fever charged rant last night had a valid point buried somewhere in the ramble. The consequences from any ban is that there is always an unintentional area where the new laws carry over and cause an undesirable effect in an area contrary to what was the purpose of the law. This specific point is what has me on edge.

Here is an example for my alarm. New Jersey considers this to be an assault weapon. A Marlin Model 60 rifle, the good old "Glenfield". A light and quick action twenty-two rifle perfect for plinking cans and dispatching pesky vermin. It is illegal to own in New Jersey because it is an "assault" weapon because the rifle is semi-automatic and has a magazine capacity of eighteen. If yours was purchase before the ban or a newer model with a smaller fourteen round capacity you "may" be fine. I say maybe because if you use twenty-two shorts.... you are over the legal limit!? Confusing and a huge problem with law enforcement.

"When dealing with guns, the citizen acts at his own peril," wrote the NJ Supreme Court when it upheld the conviction of the owner of a Marlin Model 60 .22 rifle as an assault firearm (State v. Pelleteri).

The Remington 552 Speedmaster falls into the grey area too.

Why is this rifle even considered an assault weapon?

Gib, a Marlin 60 was my first firearm, a Christmas gift. Passed on to my brother who is still using it.

I've been thinking about a higher capacity mag for my Ruger 10/22 Mannlicher, but can't decide, and maybe the decision has been made for me. :ninja: I was considering one from the pics below, as the tiny stock clips are a real pain.

You wouldn't expect him to go out into the woods where vicious wild turkeys congregate without a tactical weapon now, would you?

My experience with the 10/22 is as long as the feed lips on the magazine are metal you should be fine.

I have spent a large amount of money to have seventeen round magazines (140mm) blocked by Dawson just to allow them into the state. I shoot handguns for the most part. Any new legislation on the horizon makes me cringe to what hoops I will have to jump threw just to stay legal. Shooting sports are such a large part of my family and friends, that we don't even think of firearms as anything else than a tool that is part of everyday life. I may live in the outskirts of Trenton but I grew up down the street from Ocean County Park where the huge dealership is today. I am somewhat of a displaced country boy.

A mainly shoot a pistol like this in 38 super (major).

That really doesn't answer my question Bob. Your opinion is probably as good as anyone else, but I have a hard time determining who those 'presidential scholars' are and why you would hold them, whomever they may be, in such high regard instead of the garden variety working person. Closest I can get to a 'presidential scholar' is an organization for high school students. To me, the opinions of Mr and Mrs Average speak more about the real life status of an elected official, and the one in the big house isn't doing very well with them. I'm also really curious as to how you come to your conclusion regarding how race is involved. Folks don't support him for many varied reasons I would imagine. Me, I don't believe he is qualified to sit in that office and his decisions, or lack of, over the years have just enforced that belief. I am just thankful for presidential term limits.

Would not expect anything different from you 46'r. You are Mr. Contrarian. You would, in all likelihood, probably profess to all of us (despite your true feelings) to hate the guts of anyone in office. As to qualifications, your current sitting president, Mr. Barak Obama, took 51% of the popular vote, and took well over 100 more electoral votes than his competitor. That qualifies him to be president by the standards of the US Constitution.

Your vote simply did not count this election Mr. 46'r. So, who do you think voted for Mr. Romney-was it your "average garden variety working person"?

I'm so happy to satisfy your expectations Bob. Let that be my Christmas gift to you :smug: As a gift to me, perhaps you can describe Obamas qualifications.

As to that popular vote; a man once said "There's a sucker born every minute", and, IMO, those that voted for him were suckered twice.
