Another caboose, the sides were replaced and painted by a volunteer named Chris for his Eagle Scout project. The side windows are left out because local kids like to break them.007.jpg

Tom:

It appears the caboose with no side windows is from the Central Railroad of New Jersey—is that correct?

Oh, and to be proper in your nomenclature, you should refer to any such Pennsylvania Railroad equipment as a “cabin car” and not a caboose. BTW, if you have several of these cars on one siding, would the group be referred to as a flock of cabeese? :D

Best regards,
Jerseyman

Yes, I have been told that it is one of three from Central Railroad of New Jersey caboose's left in this area. Beside this one our gaggle of cabeese include an N6B (Just the frame), an N5c (radio car) and the old boxcar turned cabin car which I believe is designated an NX.

The newest aquisition, a 1939 Ford Railbus that was used by the Provost Marshall on Ft. Dix to move prisoners. Very rough condition plus we have to find a flathead motor and front clip.

In other news, a contractor has been selected to build a wooden platform around the station and hairpin fencing will be installed within a couple months.

I stopped by the station a few weekends ago for the first time in years. There were more artifacts and exhibits inside than one visit could do justice to! I definitely want to visit again. They also have a very good selection of historical books for sale. I added a few to my collection and might have bought more but my live-in accountant was with me . We got a very nice tour from the volunteer on duty as well. I highly recommend a visit there!

German, did you buy one of the wooden train whistles? My sister enjoyed the one I bought for my nephew. As soon as the platform gets built we will go over to county ownership. Hopefully then some of the many projects in the planning stage can be done.

Actually, thanks to friends and relatives who know I like trains, I’ve accumulated a bunch of them. I also have a very annoying sounding Lionel train clock that was given to me that just might make it onto E-Bay or Craigs list someday. Sometimes it pays to keep your interests to yourself. :)
