Q: Environmentalist wants to visit the Pine Barrens

I often get questions mailed to me, and sometimes I'm not the most qualified to answer. So I think I'm going to start posting some questions to this forum so that these people can get the benefit of the sage advice of the forum denizens:

i'm new to the pine barrens. interested in visiting, hiking, finding a place to stay nearby for a night or two.
i'm an environmentalist, so, i'm interested in seeing places like this protected, appreciated and enjoyed responsibly.
your suggestions are appreciated
