Getting ready to go outside and assess the situation and see how much chipping I need to do to get the truck ready to go to the diner for breakfast this morning.
Just finished breakfast at home. Went to take out the trash last night and almost fell on my butt when I stepped off the porch, there was a thin layer of ice and water on everything at that time. I'll just wait and let the ice melt by itself as the temperature goes up to the mid 40's later today.
I lucked out. Nothing. No rain I could see or hear and no ice. On the down side, for the period Dec 30 to 27 Jan, I got a gas bill of $423. I was moving stuff in though with the door often open and painting so sometimes I had to air the place out. But still!
I'd rather see just 2 of these a winter than multiple nuisance snows or heavy hitters with 15" and above. It's crazy that the news calls any forecast with at least an inch a 'winter storm'. In my youth it was: "light snow on tuesday folks".
Get the official Old Farmer's Almanac winter weather forecast for 2024 to 2025! Will it be a bad winter? When will it snow? The 2025 Almanac predicts the long-range weather for the upcoming winter season for the U.S. and Canada.
This winter feels pretty typical to me, the only unusual thing was the very warm fall. Good thing it finally got cold, because I sure wasn't spending time inside making maps on those nice days.
This time, I got around 6 or 7 inches, it was really coming down hard for awhile. But it was surprising how fast it melted yesterday. I just hibernated at home from Wednesday until Thursday afternoon and the snow was basically gone by then (the little that you see here is mostly gone today). The only "clearing" I did was turn on my wipers. Wish every storm was like that!
This is interesting.... could be up to 36% probability of over 12 inches of snow in some parts of the Pines and 63% probability of 4 inches all over South Jersey next Friday.
The first wind gusts from the storm just hit here in Mercer county. The next twenty four hours are going to be interesting. I'm glad I just bought a new Stihl MS 462 for work. We may need it from the looks of things to come!
The wind broke loose the screws holding the window opening bracket on our kitchen window. For some reason the window must not have been latched fully. After my daughters and I fixed it the flashing flew off the neighbors house and we went over to help them remove it. In the process we pulled a few nails from the next piece out somewhat and we had to hammer them back in using a long board while standing on the ladder.
I went out and wandered around for over an hour, it was breezy but nice and warm. Saw a dark band of clouds approaching, headed back and was just opening the door when a huge gust of wind hit! But that passed and there were a few others but no measurable rain. Still getting wind gusts here. Looked like the shore was getting hit hard, from around Waretown up to Point Pleasant(?) but that is moving out to sea now.
