I went on a grand four county excursion yesterday, first stop was at Atsion to buy another topo map, someone in my family has their hands on four of them, i found out this morning who it is, at the end of this saga i will identify the culprit.
Went south on rt.206 to the left turn for Batsto, the blueberry pickers were out in full force yesterday, took a little side trip through Green Bank, then New Gretna, then arrived in Bass River State Forest.
Me and my friend George found a Burlington County, Ocean County boundary stone, we had one foot in one county, then the other foot in the other county, neato, we proceeded to another boundary stone that we found last weekend. This is the stones part of the trip.
Back out to rt.542, past Batsto, to Richards Ave. for a little sightseeing, then back to rt.542, past the glider airport, picked up a pint of organic blueberries for 2.00 bucks a pint, it was a self serve trust payment stand.
Proceeded back to rt.206 north to a place i haven't been to in 20 years, made a left on rt.536, went as far as Arrowhead Ave., made a ubee then on to Pestleton, went as far as Wharton ave. where the pavements ends, decided against going down Wharton, road looked like a rutted ditch, seems the irresponsibles had a good time tearing Wharton Ave. up.
Went back to rt.206 north, now for the pints and the smokers part of the trip, stopped at the Pic for 1.50 Yuenglings, and a bakers dozen smoker hot wings, haven't been in the pic for many moons either, enjoyed it, it has changed quite a bit.
Proceeded to rt.541 north to Medford Lakes, Aetna Lake was bone dry, to Jackson rd. past Sally Starr's pizza across rt. 30 to Berlin to rt. 561 for a long nostalgic ride home.
Passed the Berlin Mart, there is no longer a Pennsauken Mart, onward to Clementon, past the park where alot of my youth was spent, up to Blackwood, drove on the black horse pike for a while to rt. 41 north to rt.30 the white horse pike, wanted to see an old favorite place of mine Edmund Scientific, it is now Anchor Optics and Edmund Industrial Optics, the store is long gone, i bought my first telescope there, also like the unusual stuff they had there, the living pyramid, the whole earth catalog, and other neat stuff,
Back to rt.30 west, past the old ritz theater, past the old chip and putt place in Oaklyn, to rt.30 and rt.130 circle, there is construction at the circle on the northeast side, rt.30 definitely needs a repave job, my seven second anti skip alpine cd player was not playing too well on that road, on to Pennsauken where i lived for four years, then over the Betsy to home. Sorry about the non pine barrens nostalgia, but it brought back a lot of memories.
All in all i was in four counties today, had my feet in two of them at the same time, rode the black horse, rode the white horse, on a half of tank of gas. You can tell i was in no hurry to get home. From a Supertramp recording " I took the long way home. "
Oh yeah, the culprit on my topis was my six year old grandson, i asked why did you take them without asking me, he said he was fascinated with them, what could i say, i think there is a future explorer in my family.
