Buy all of the Twinkies! Hoard them! HOARD THEM!

Is this the end for Twinkies?:siren:The Twinkie(R) Burrito, featured in The Twinkies Cookbook

RVING, Texas - November 16, 2012 (WPVI) -- Hostess, the maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, plans to go out of business, lay off its 18,500 workers and sell its snack cake and bread brands.

The Irving, Texas, company said a nationwide strike crippled its ability to make and deliver its products, which also include Ding Dongs, Ho Ho's and Home Pride bread.

Long live the Twinkie! Another iconic brand on its way to a sad ending, joining the likes of Pan Am, Zenith, Polaroid, Plymouth and Texaco. Hopefully, the pieces of the company are purchased by a smart investor who realizes the potential of the brand and keeps the business going.

I don't understand how the workers that are striking think that is a good idea. They had a job and now won't. What are they gaining?

Because these people know they live in a socialist society where someone else (who works hard) will take care of them. Don't want this to get political but I really hate unions. We actually voted our union out at work because most of us were philosophically opposed to one.

If they are not happy with that they have the option to find a new job. Now they don't have one and as mentioned above we will pay for that.

I don't understand that logic. If he and maybe others had three months or anywhere close to that for retirement, why roll the dice? He should have voted against the strike and worked. What wage increase was he worried about at this point. And with that said, they all should have been thinking that way also. Maybe the younger or newer employees had different thoughts, but what did they gain? Absolutly nothing. There are times to roll the dice and times not to. This was not the time.

It really is puzzling. What were they thinking?

I don't get it either, and like Nascar I'm not going to say very much. But here's what they were thinking, according to the union itself: http://www.aflcio.org/Blog/Corporat...nk-Hurt-Hostess-Demise-a-Decade-in-the-Making

“Throughout this long and difficult process, BCTGM members showed tremendous courage, solidarity and devotion to principle. They were well aware of the potential consequences of their actions but stood strong for dignity, justice and respect.”

After reading several other articles, the workers, the union and the management are what brought the company to an end. The workers refused to adapt their demands in a competitive market place and management let the brand stagnate, failing to freshen up the product line. The company failed to turn around while its investors looked to cash out.

Basic poor business and labor ideals from both workers and management drove the company into the ground. In this day in age you have to be willing to make a small sacrifice today to gain more in the future. You have to know at all times what it costs to run your business and where the money is and will be going. It is very difficult but you have to be on top of your short term and long term business plan to succeed, that is one of the fundamentals - basic economics 101.
