Well, I have decided to pop the question to Megan, and no, it's not to go looking for Calico. I am a bit nervous...I am thinking on Sunday to go out to the pines with her like we are going exploring, then proposing to her either at QB, Washington, or Harrisville. I am leaning more towards Washington. Sound corny? Some thoughts guys? Any ideas to make this special?

I don't think it's corny at all. But it has a lot to do with her interests... many women might not put a day in the pines at the top of their "fun things to do" list ;-)

I suppose I'd cast my vote for Harrisville in the "romantic" department though. I just went there a few days ago with a friend and she was totally blown away by the place.

I would do it on the bank of a rushing cedar stream, perhaps at a small waterfall. The second fall at Harrisville is nice, you can stand on the little concrete thing by the old gaging station if its still there. Hopefully the sun will be out and reflecting off the water, with the dark cedars in the background.

Another idea, take her to the Mullica River casino, then after lunch take her over by the Mullica on the bank and propose there.

Or the bridge at Double Trouble, propose to her there while both of you are looking upstream. Tell her that the water has come a long way from its source, and that now you want to go a long way with her. You could do the same thing from the Batsto spillway.

Or take her in a canoe on Bamber Lake, and go upstream on the Webb Mill branch a ways with a bottle of wine and 2 nice glasses. Tie the canoe to a tree in the middle of that beautiful stream. Have something light to eat and some wine, and then remark how beautiful the day is, the stream is, and then how beautiful she is, and that you just cannot see living without her. I will let you use my canoe.

Another nice spot is the dock in front of the old cabin at Wells Mills Park. Tell her that the cedars on the opposite shore are a picture in grace and beauty, and that the only thing you see around you that surpasses it is her.

Sorry to get carried away Tom, it sounds like a great moment. Live it well, be romantic. Give her something to remember.

She's very into it...although she hates cold weather, she is always up for exploring. Her family name starts at Bozarth and is blown away by her past...

Tom,
I'm sure she'll say yes where ever you ask her. Also consider Friendship or the Forked River Mountain. Very nice places. Of course you may also want to consider a romantic candle lit dinner as well.

Tom,

Thanks for telling us about your plans. That is nice and certainly NOT corny!

Reading over Bob's post, Jessica said not to take his advice on Double Trouble. Not a good combination of words. :) Both she and my wife said to make up a sign and place it at the location you are doing this at, so so when you get there she will find it. I am not so sure about that though.

Harrisville has too many visitors and cars going by in my opinion. I would assume you chose Washington for it's semi remoteness and with the choices you mentioned I would agree with yours.

For me I would choose a remote spot with no trash next to a river if you think she would want that question asked in the pines.

I proposed to my wife on top of the apple pie hill fire tower. Worked out pretty good. It was seven years ago. Took two tries though, first time was too foggy so I waited for a nicer day. Best of luck to you!!

I'm leaning towards the Green Bank Inn.
A couple of shots of Beam for courage, a few drafts and WHAM!
That WHAM might be her cracking you with a bottle though.

What about on the steps of Batsto mansion?
Actually, that was my first thought Ben....but I realized I wanted something remote. The first thought in my mind was Washington...only because I feel like it was the middle of busy town once and how beautiful the setting had to be at one time. I have gotten some great ideas.
