A month is way too long!! That sounds odd. Chiggars hit me for 3 days tops before the itching stops, but I am very lucky in that insect bites don't last long with me. Tick bites can last a while before they heal entirely.

A few years ago I had gone through a nest (or several). My legs were a mess for more than a month. The itching was very bad.
Yeah, the itching can last a long time, but I suspect that has to do with allergic reactions and also how much you irritate the spots with scratching. A month seems a little long... but maybe it just feels like a month.... Ben, you posted your chigger story about 18 days ago
